Thumbs up Make a saving by recycling

I've possibly saved £30 over the last 2 weeks.

My peg bag disintegrated so I made a new one by using 2 unwanted place mats.

I was then after a veg basket on wheels. I tried to buy a 2-tier basket from the local shop but they only had a 3-tier. After much thought I remembered that I had a shopping basket that OH bought me many years ago and also a base on wheels - normally used for pots in the garden. So, join the 2 together and I get one new veg basket.

    Simples!

Good thinking. As to peg bags, I just use a normal canvas shopping bag, but then I have a lot of pegs

When my two sons were toddlers I used to make dungarees for them from my husband's old denim jeans; cot duvet covers from old sheets, etc. etc.

I was brought up in the make-do-and-mend mould by my mother and grandmother in the 1950s when money was tight.

Who remembers winding wool from old hand-knitted jumpers to be re-used for a new one?

Now there's a thought. I have some unwanted canvas bags too but that may be a Winter project.

I was doing that in the 60's Annie and still do it myself with scarves that I knitted a few years ago.

Money is tight and I still prefer the make-do-and-mend wherever possible.

My next aim is to tackle shed number 1 that is full to the brim. I'm sure there's some 1950/60 kitchen chairs in there that could be sold along with numerous bits that I'm sure can be recycled for the house and garden. If only it would cool down a bit I'll get busy and get my thinking cap on.

When in Primary school in my home village, the teacher saw me trying to get my coat on at the end of the day. Looking, she saw the problem.

"I would not want to be you when your mother sees what you have done!" she laughed....

I was wearing half a jumper and had a ball of wool in my right hand still connected to the mother lode!

    She was right!

    LOL - genuinely!

I'm struck by the way people buy too much of stuff - I've just been given on freecycle a whole dustbin bag of yarn - I won't be repurposing preknitted yarn for some time.
