    Default Grass Killer

You can get lawn weedkiller that targets the weeds but doesn't damage the grass.

Is there such a thing that kills grass but doesn't damage anything else?

I have grass growing amongst my border plants and can find no way of getting rid of it - short of digging the whole lot out. Even if I did dig it all out the problem would only reoccur on replanting.

G'day astral, there are lots of different grass killers available, but would most likely kill your plants also?
You would have to know your type of grass, & check out a specific poison for that type - & what else it kills?

Here's an alternative (poison free method) you may be able to use! (see the short video)

A tip I picked up off Pinterest:

    Natural Weed Killer :
    1 gallon vinegar,
    1/2 cup salt,
dash of dish washing detergent (makes it stick to the weeds).
Mix well, spray on weeds in the morning, rejoice in their death that evening. This works best on a sunny day.

Works well on weeds and grass coming through our back fence.

Unfortunately, solarisation wouldn't work over here, it just doesn't get that hot. Also the black plastic provides a nice warm, moist refuge not only for weeds but also for slugs that'll finish off the plants you're trying to protect!

Cheapest way I've found is to use a "weed wand", giving each clump of grass one to two seconds according to size. Two or three days later the grass is dead.. The only chemical I've met that will kill a monocot selectively is "Falcon" but it's very expensive - about £50 per litre. As you may imagine it is used diluted very heavily. It's mostly used by the forestry commission for killing off grass around trees and leaving other ground cover intact. Of course, if you happen to know somebody who works.....(VBG)

Thanks all, though it doesn't sound like most would fit the bill. The grass is growing up through ground cover planting ( e.g. heather ), so I wanted something that I could spray over an area that would just target the grass amongst everything else without any collateral damage.

I think I had spotted that Falcon stuff when I researched the issue last year - but couldn't find it available from a UK supplier at the time and recoiled at the price. While the grass is annoying it is not yet £50+ annoying.

I'll just have to keep pulling the stalks out as they grow through and before they seed. Though that rarely gets the roots as well so it just grows back again.

Maybe my neighbour has the right idea - concrete and artificial grass. I like real greenery though and it is wildlife friendly.

I should add that you use white or clear vinegar, not malt vinegar !
