    Default Ultrasonic Insect Repellers

Anyone used the subject items? Do they work in keeping flies and other bugs out of the house? If they do, any recommendations on brand.

Not interested in the mice and rats deterrent as I (thankfully) do not have any problems with them.

    TIA

Had one, bought in S Korea. Had no effect at all.
Maybe we have the wrong bugs in UK.
Also have an electric swatter looks like a tennis racket. Saw them in Bangladesh. Very satisfying hearing large flies fry when hit at exactly the same time as you are pressing the electric zap button. Top marks for satisfaction when it works but that is about 5% of the time, again, made for a market with bigger bugs than we have?

I had one too. Never did a thing - plugged it in, a blue light came on and then ..... nothing! Never zapped one single fly or other flying insect.
The item description said that it would attract all flying insects, well it didn't work at all for us.
I'm terrified of moths and was hoping to see a few off before they terrorised me.

Like Bill says, the tennis racket thingummy zaps flying bugs and fries them (ugh!) ..... but you have to make sure that the insect is actually on the mesh when you press the button to zap them. Not always an easy task, but extremely satisfying when you do manage it!

    Thank for the responses.

To clarify, I am not talking about the UV light 'zapper' type of fly killer. I've got one of those and agree they do nothing.

The type I mean emits an ultrasonic sound that keeps/drives pests out of the house. This kind of thing:

I had a problem with ants in the house a few years ago, ended up with the council pest control man coming round and spraying which got rid of them. They haven't come back, touch wood.

I asked him about the ultrasonic repellers and he didn't rate them at all, said I'd be wasting my money.

I tried out an ultrasonic insect repeller a few years ago. It did not do anything at all. I amused myself by deciding it was because I had no ultrasonic insects! Seriously, these things do not work at all.

The "blue light" device which attracts the insect and then explodes it, works well - if you buy the industrial one, which is tremendously expensive. I first saw one in Greece many years ago, and it was very effective. However, the ones sold for domestic use seem to be a far-eastern rip-off. They do nothing.

The electronic tennis racquet is great in many respects. I have two, one in my living room and one in my kitchen. The trick is to get your aim and co-ordination right; this forms my Summer exercise. They can be addictive, however, and people passing by must be puzzled by the view of an elderly man flailing the air as he attempts to play tennis.

Christmas may be the season of goodwill and general bonhomie, but Summer is that of pirouetting and cursing.

Not at all...if a quote, I'd have used quotation marks. I was referring back to my flailing at flies in an earlier statement. The cursing is at the flies, of course.J'espère que vous me comprenez!

Ok, folks. I decided not to buy one.

Best I could tell you would really need more than one anyway (if they worked).
