    Default Got to laugh?

No money in the local budget to fix the almost infinite number of potholes in the roads, or to redo road markings that are almost invisible - particularly at junctions.

No money to keep the street lights on all night.

No money to keep the local A&E open at night - have to go to Lincoln. (Ok, that one is not down to the council).

Yet, somehow, they have found the cash to repaint the yellow lines on the town roads.

Ah, of course, yellow lines are a revenue stream.

The roads around Bath are in a dreadful state, I play dodge the potholes every time I take my car out. The last time my brother visited even he commented that the roads around here were worse than Cornwall !

Well, I have just had to replace both rear suspension springs on the car because one had broken. I blame it on the potholes. Don't think I could prove it to claim compensation though.

One area is so bad here that I go the long way round just to avoid it. You can't miss the potholes, as by avoiding one you drive into another.

Recent pics on TV of the roads in Hawaii damaged by the eruptions and earthquakes; they were still in better condition than ours.

That's already been done in Bath last year by quite a few people around the area ...

You would have to be careful or you could be prosecuted for making changes to a public highway.

Someone recently painted yellow circles around the potholes in his road and added something like 'FIX ME'.**

The council threatened him with court action as it is illegal to make unauthorised markings on or changes to a highway.

No money to fix the pot holes but money enough to waste on taking vindictive court action.

** I can't find the newspaper report now but it was very recent.

How did they know who did it?

TV news this lunchtime mentioned potholes, said it costs £1,000 to fill each pothole. Considering there's a cold asphalt stuff that makes a reasonable repair, that sounds an outrageous price. Must be possible to outsource it to someone enterprising.

I believe ours is outsourced. At least it's not council vehicles at the repair site. I suppose it is so costly because the company has to make enough profit to keep the shareholders happy and to pay the executives a huge salary.
