Default Flickr image hosting has agreed to be acquired by SmugMug.

Email received this morning - To those of you who use links to images hosted by Flickr in your listiings - Flickr has agreed to be acquired by SmugMug.
"Nothing will change immediately with regard to your Flickr account. You will still access Flickr with your current login credentials and you will have the same Flickr experience as you do now. We will continue to work to make your Flickr experience even better.
We think you are going to love Flickr under SmugMug ownership, but you can choose to not have your Flickr account and data transferred to SmugMug until May 25, 2018. If you want to keep your Flickr account and data from being transferred, you must go to your Flickr account to download the photos and videos you want to keep, then delete your account from your Account Settings by May 25, 2018.
If you do not delete your account by May 25, 2018, your Flickr account and data will transfer to SmugMug and will be governed by SmugMug’s Terms and Privacy Policy.

Read more detailed FAQs about this transition on the Flickr Blog." https://blog.flickr.net/en

Is this going to mean I have to pay to use it? I don't use it for auction images but I have other stuff on Flickr

Couldn't see a clear answer to that question. Has anyone else spotted it?

Oh no, sigh, this isn't going to end up another Photobucket type scenario is it ?! I certainly hope not. I've only got one thing hosted with them but it would mean changing all my listings again.

I am only relieved that I haven't had 77 emails to tell me about it... I haven't had one!

Might try https://photos.google.com/ for some of my Flickr albums as don't like the look of SmugMug.

I'm using my own website for eBid links.

    From the Flick Help Forums:

what does it mean my photos and data are transferring to SmugMug?

    Matthew Almon Roth
    PRO
    says:

SHORT ANSWER: Flickr will stay Flickr. SmugMug (the company) will own Flickr, but you will continue to use the Flickr product, as it is today. Nothing changes with your account. Your use of Flickr will be governed by these new Terms of Service. Read on for more detail.

One of the more common misconceptions we're seeing in the forums and on social media is the concern that with the transition from Yahoo/Oath ownership to SmugMug ownership, you are giving your photos to SmugMug. Or that you have to stop having a Flickr account and download your photos and create a SmugMug account. Let me try to clarify:

    1. If you stay with Flickr, you're simply agreeing to transfer your data to SmugMug [the company], not SmugMug [the product]. This is necessary for SmugMug to be able to host and run your Flickr account, just as Yahoo/Oath is currently hosting and running your Flickr account.

    2. If you are ok with the change of ownership of Flickr from Yahoo/Oath to SmugMug, you don't need to do anything with your photos and nothing changes with your Flickr account. Just the owner of Flickr changes and the Terms governing your Flickr account change. You can (and IMO should) read SmugMug's Terms for Flickr here: www.smugmug.com/about/terms-flickr
