Thread: One of our states is misspelled

  1. #1

Default One of our states is misspelled

I just added a postcard and discovered a misspelling in the Postcards category. Not a world-stopper, I'm sure anyone browsing will know which state it really is, but it jarred me a bit.

Here's what is on the drop-down menu:

    Collectibles > Postcards > Topographical > USA > Colourado

There is no "u" in Colorado.

Please fix this? I know we spell the word for a hue differently, but this is a state name that people may search for.

    One of the clearer ones!

Just be thankful it isn't Welsh rather than Spanish! There's one seller here gets the name of the railway station incorrect and the name of the line it's on, although it's on the postcard! They'll end up deciding to sell no more of those as nobody ever searches for them! I know the spellings (phonetic) are difficult as are the pronunciations for the monoglot, but an inability to copy from an item you are selling is crazy!

I feel like paraphrasing Oscar Wilde : "To lose one parent...!" (VBG)

I didn't think about searches! I didn't specifically ask them to fix it, but I think I'd better. Some of the Colorado postcards are from a very well-known photographer.

Hmmm...worserer and worserer! In an idle moment I entered "Colourado" as a search term and received this as the beginning of the "not found" message:

"Your current search hasn't find any results."

    English as she is squoken?

No, and the one I found in a system generated email has almost certainly not been changed either.

I get the feeling that there is an agenda, management are working to it and we are attended to only when we fit in with that agenda.

In which case, enquiring minds would like to know what that agenda is!

As an appendix to this thread I must sadly report the official death of English. A grammatical error I hear all around me these days, especially among the younger generation, now appears in print!

I have just returned from my weekly shopping trip; while putting goods away, I checked to see whether an item might be frozen or had to be chilled and read the following:

"This item might of been frozen previously..."

Shall we all stand and have a minute's silence? The dregs of speech have now become official. I think I'll revert to Latin! Ave et Vale! (Hail and Farewell!)
