Burning remaining fuel before the new financial year so they don't get their budgets cut?

Possible. I forgot that we used to do that.

Always seemed government madness to me, forcing us to not save money for fear of being left short the next year.

Still... the extra practice might be useful in the current climate.

When Gavin Williamson, Tory Defence Secretary, tells Russia to 'go away and shut up'.... does he include wife of Vladimir Chernukhin (former Russian deputy finance minister), who has donated £30K to the Tories to have dinner with Gavin Williamson?

You really did it? The most that happened in my bit of MoD was chocolate biscuits in meetings but that, too, was for the reason given.

Yes, used to fly like hell for the last couple of months of the year to use up the fuel quota so that it wouldn't be cut the next year.

I assumed that you were serious in your original post, but from your response I guess you thought that you were joking. Just goes to show that the government (or the MoD penny counters) are more than just a joke.
