Oh crikey that's bad news for the YDC. How on earth can they justify that on top of currency exchange fees ?! It's not as if any money is actually leaving any country it's just going round and round through an electronic system !

What are the fees for contributing to a pool?

Contributions are personal payments and the fees for personal payments apply.

Which I presume means any fees they are going to stick on in the future will also apply !

Well, BACS payments or sending direct to the charity concerned is OK for UK YDC payments; haven't found anything similar yet for small non-UK payments.

As far as I can tell, it's the sending personal money "friends and family" option that is affected. The sender gets the charge if they send the money internationally.

I was shocked to be charged it when I sent money to the U.S. Disappointed too, because I wanted to send more money for the seller's charity than I did, but the charge caught me off guard and confused me a bunch!

There are so few people left who participate in YDC who live in countries other than UK. I don't think that those of you who buy and sell from each other in the UK are affected by this.

As the lone Canadian, I go back and forth on whether it is worth it for me to participate at all. There aren't many U.S. sellers in the YDC anymore either. We've lost several of the participants without attracting new ones.

    Now this PayPal change.

we have always had to pay a small sum for f&f overseas. Is this another charge on top of that?

Yes, as per the comments at the start of the thread.

The international fees went from a few cents to a minimum $3 for Canadians. The change was last fall.

US will see the charge in April and UK in May.

Here is excerpt from thread that husband forwarded to me. It was posted on one of message boards that he frequents.

"I've got an e-mail from paypal that showed policy updates. Actually, page showed how much fees will PP withhold when Im sending money abroad. I knew that some PP fees in Russia were caused by law (according to it such international money transfer companies have to reserve 100x turnover amount in domestic bank), but I checked how will it work in different countries:

USA: (Effective Date: April 19, 2018) $2.99 or $4.99 per transaction depending on the recipient’s country + 2.9% of the transaction amount.

Germany: (Effective Date: May 25, 2018) EUR 1.99 or EUR 3.99 per transaction depending on the recipient’s country + 1.9% of the transaction amount.

Australia: (Effective date: 5 April 2018) $5.99 AUD flat fee, a 2.6% + fixed fee will apply, but the 2.6% will only apply to the portion of the payment for which you used the credit card or debit card.

UK: (Effective Date: May 25, 2018) GBP 1.99 or GBP 3.99 per transaction depending on the recipient’s country + 3.4% of the transaction amount.
    etc.

Smaller fixed fee (first number) works for (right for UK, may be different for other countries):" ...

As Canada is already in effect here is link to information about the changes for Canadians that took place last fall.
