Thread: Item ID number retain

  1. #11

Does this not defeat the object of re-listing in the first place?
I thought we relisted to get a new id number to move the listings about the search results?
If it re-listed with the same id number wouldn't they just stay in the same place on the searches and gradually get lower and lower in searches of the same product?

I don't know the answer to that one, but, I sell on another site and when I relist it retains the original ID# every time.

    Actually, a very good point.

I believe the listings move up in searches by the time remaining on the listing, not by the listing id number.

    Do you mean Google searches?

Am not sure how the other site you use works?
I think that this may work for unique one of a kind items but mass produced items or common items it would hinder these sellers. For myself I am a comic book seller and there is a lot of us here and some of use are selling the same issues (it happens) if I list my copy first and it keeps the same ID every copy that is listed after would appear on top of mine in searches.
One of the reason a lot of sellers moved away from RTS bookings was because searches looked stagnate to buyers with the same ID numbers never ending?
I maybe wrong with this but the ID numbers must change for a reason?
I think this maybe one of those things that is good for one seller but hinder another?

Maybe it would be a good solution to make it optional as to keeping our listing number or not, if that was possible ?

For me selling items that are usually unique, there might just be one or two doubles from other sellers, the listing number change is a bit of a pain because of broken promotional links on other sites.

To be fair, I don't think the listing ID number matters.
Just went and looked at a comic - X-Men 300
There were 10 listings (ranging from £1 to £15)- first 3 were ended after a set time, rest were RUS.
1st ended in 1 day 12 hours, 3rd ended in 7 days 4 hours, RUS were problably in ID order.
So from that one look/search on ebid, the one at the top of the list will be the one that ends the soonest.

Which will be the ones with the newest ID's of the auto-relists and RUS move to the bottom of the searches.
