    eBid could tailor text on the site and correspondence more to the user's profile though.

    An example is a user's About Me page where it says stuff like the following even if they are only registered as a Buyer.

    SOME INFORMATION ABOUT XXXXXXXXXXX

    Giving you an little more insight into the seller.
    That kind of thing just smacks of lazy coding to me and bugs me whenever I see it done.

    Me too. Admittedly it's not easy to spot ones own typos (e.g. I often see mine shortly after sending an irrevocable email!). If we were encouraged by seeing action on this front it's likely someone (or a small group) would put in the effort to search and produce a list. But nobody's going to do that if they think it would be ignored.
