Default Calling all knitters and crocheters!!

    [Nicked from Facebook]

St Thomas’s hospital have run out of bonding squares on their Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Bonding squares are pairs of 5 inch by 5 inch knitted or crochet squares (any colour, design, and wool - please do be aware it needs to be washable in a machine for accidental spit up moments). One square is put with the poorly baby, and the other square is with the parent, and then these are swapped over daily. They are so crucial for our little superstar premature babies, our sicky newborns and parents who are separated at such a stressful time.

Please please please dig out your knitting needles if you can and help our tiny humans
    Please send them to:
    Neonatal unit
    St Thomas hospital
    Westminster bridge road
    London
    SE1 7EH

Thank you! The babies and mummy’s will be so happy

The perfect tension squares, I think. When I finished my knitting, I shall have a rummage

I have just finished a 'twiddle'blanket for a friend in the end stage of dementia. This will use up the wool which is just waiting for another project.

    Thank you for the link.

I came across your post yesterday and had to find again to forward. I talked to a few of my friends that knit yesterday and they are going to make some of the squares and forward to the hospital. Don't know when or how many they will do, but I just wanted you to know that some knitters that don't even belong to e-bid will be helping.

    Thanks for sharing.

Here is a recommended pattern. Please remember that Bath Maternity ask that the hats are all white, with a red/amber/green bobble on top.

Thanks Annie. I saw that on the news and they have had a good response so far but could always do with more.

What amazes me is that Great Western Hospital, Swindon, always say that they have too much. It makes no sense!

When I knit this stuff, I send it to Bonnie Babies who respond to requests from hospitals round the country, so I know that what I knit ends up where it is wanted.

I don't know much about yarn other than 2ply, 4 ply & DK ! Trying to find out what is medium weight 4 yarn is in the pattern ? Is that like an Aran, that seems really thick for a newborn or have I got it wrong ?

University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire Charity

Our supply of comfort blankets is running desperately low. The special blankets are offered to our patients and families in the last hours and days of life, helping to provide great comfort during a very difficult time. If you or anyone you know are able to knit or crochet then we’d really appreciate your help. To obtain information on patterns/ colours and to register your support please email: uhcwcharity@uhcw.nhs.uk or call : 02476 966059
    Thank you
