Are Notices really Restricted to 225 characters?

I could swear I have put more than 225 chars in a notices box for my listings previously. I just received a message saying I was trying to enter 1019.

Anyone know?

I know the notices are kept short, I don't know offhand how many characters you are allowed I'm afraid.

I don't mind them being short but what I would like back is the coloured text that we used to be able to have to make them more visible to our buyers !

That's what the message sez if you do enter more than 225, so that would seem to be the set max characters (including whitespace).

If the 1019 number is more than you believe you were entering... were you pasting in text that you had copied from somewhere else?
