I agree with that to a point, though I feel it is more that people eventually get tired of answering the same queries over and over again. Luckily those they had helped gain experience took over the reins when the 'oldies' gave up. I'm not so sure who there will be to take over from current responders when the present crew give up though.
I feel the 'social' forums primarily died with that ill fated forums update when it all went pear shaped. Many contributors gave up fighting the bugs introduced then and left; not returning even when eBid brought the old forums software back. That plus the sad loss of a number of the old guard in recent times who traded in their eBid forum sainthoods for the real thing.
Forums really are a shadow of what they were and eBid, in totality, is the poorer for it in my view. Admittedly eBid is more than the forums but they did use to seem to give it a heart.
