Default Not Happy About The New Intrusive Advertising

Hi, I have just logged in tonight and noticed that we have new intrusive advertising at the top of the pages. If being in your face is not bad enough, these adverts are from competing websites.

I realise that one source of income for eBid is advertising (we are told that it is reciprocal, but few people have seen eBid promoted on other sites). However do you really want a situation where someone who has just arrived at the site is encouraged to leave it immediately, going to a venue that maybe better known to them instead.

Surely there is a way of sifting the adverts so that the opposition's adverts do not appear.

Also positioning them somewhere away from the first place people look may be more beneficial, otherwise any work done on the site is wasted as people may not come back to the site having gone to another.

I use Adblock Plus so that I can read the Telegraph - and other websites - without having to wait 10 mins or more the ads to load.

So do I Annie, but these swerve that somehow. It is a little disturbing - have looked at two categories: computing, which has a series of ads for a well known high street provider. Also on the Books section there is an ad for audiobooks.

I wonder if the management thought about the consequences of that, the ads may bring in money but they will also lead to a hemorrhaging of potential customers that the site can't really afford.

We would really prefer it if you whitelisted ebid.net within your adblocker software.

Advertising income is a major source of income to us and has halved over the past year with adblockers.

Any ads you do see are from Google's Adsense programe and are tailored by them, they are not controlled by us.

Every penny we make from our ads is ploughed straight back into Google Shopping and allows us to increase visibility of eBid items there.

    Thanks
    Gazza

Hi Gazza, I do not have a problem with the ads themselves, my main grumble was about their positioning. From the pages I have seen they are the first thing that a prospective customer sees when they click through to the page. In my opinion they would be better at the bottom of the page then at least the person browsing would get to look at the listing before being tempted away by a "known name".
