Default Any ideas on what to do with three redundant laptops?

    2006 Toshiba laptop running XP

2011 Acer Aspire notebook also running XP

2015 Asus notebook running Win10, but run out of memory so can't update anything.

All hard drives need wiping/factory restore before disposal.

You could sell them, as long as you list what is wrong with them, they can still be used for spares. Most importantly though remove and destroy the hard drives before selling the remaining computer. From what I have been told with most hard drives that fail it is still possible to resurrect them and get details off them. If you take a computer to a repair shop they will simply recommend a new hard drive as this is the quickest and most convenient fix for them to do.

People still buy such things. I was after one recently to use with a car on-board diagnostics reader. Not going to be connected to the internet or used for anything else so age and updateability not an issue. Cheap and nasty is fine in such a situation.

In the past I have replaced windows with Linux Ubuntu because it runs faster and needs less memory.

Could a charity make use of them?

There is no need to remove and destroy the HDD. There is special software which will wipe the drive perfectly, leaving it impossible to recover any information. The software is free and downloadable. How do I know it works? Well I used to do a little forensic work at one time...

Don't forget it will also remove the OS. The answer then is to use Linux...Pepprmint is a good lighweight one that handles like windows.

If you wish for more information just PM me.
