Default New sub-category needed in Great Britain stamps.

Now that we have a new Commemorative sub-category for commemorative stamps which is itself further sub-divided into decades, it is necessary to complete these sub-caterories. There is a sub-category for each decade between 1960s and 2000s. We need one for 2010s.

    Great Britain>Commemoratives>2010s.

I think that sub-categories for decades deters buyers.

It is something a collector would think of doing but if you are buying, you would not look under decades.

I will ask support to delete the sub-categories.

Wherever possible you list commemoratives under topics in order to attract buyers.

I would prefer if the commemoratives sub-categories were deleted but we would still have a problem. We would have a new commemoratives category in Great Britain but most commemorative listings are still in the old categories i.e. Elizabeth Pre decimal or Elizabeth Decimal. Certainly I have not moved any of my existing listings to the new category and I would suspect that no one else has either.
I only found out about the new category by chance. I think sellers should be given notice about any change in categories or of new categories. If eBid management wish to keep the new Commemorative category they should advise sellers about the new xategory and advise them to move existing listings to this new category where appropriate. This is what the Belgian site used to do (I don't know if they still do)

I think that the categories need to be shrunk back drastically in order to help buyers to find things.

I find that buyers range through the whole of my 6700 GB stamps and buy because they come across things, and use a filter when they need to.
If someone wants a 1965 stamp, they are unlikely to click and click and click until they come to a 1960s decade sub-category, and then hunt. They will do a seach for GB 1965

Just Pre and post decimal Elizabeth suits my buying public well.

A good example of defeating buyers is
31215 Stamps Great Britain : Victoria : Embossed Issues
    31216 Stamps Great Britain : Victoria : Line-Engraved Issues
719 Stamps Great Britain : Victoria : Other
31218 Stamps Great Britain : Victoria : Penny Blacks
    31217 Stamps Great Britain : Victoria : Surface-Printed Issues

Only the most elite stamp collectors will know the difference between embossed, line-engraved and surface-printed. The majority like the look of a Victoria stamp and buy it.
So what do they do now? There is no general Victoria category! 719 is now "Other", which is interpreted as, "don't bother to look here"
    ;
Another is creating categories that are not exclusive, such as Machins which could be in three different sub-categories:

9208 Stamps Great Britain : Elizabeth II : Decimal (1971-Now)
31213 Stamps Great Britain : Elizabeth II : Machin Definitives
    9209 Stamps Great Britain : Elizabeth II : Pre-Decimal (1952-1971)

I would label a definitive in 9208 as Machin, and in 9209 as Machin or Wilding as appropriate. Job done without confusion or endlessly drilling down into subcategories.

But are they an expert in something that is related to the subject matter?

I'm by no means an expert on stamps, but I'm curious as to why there needs to be categories for one particular issue style of stamp? It would seem to me that too many individual sub-categories would clog up the servers and slow down the search. For example, if I'm looking for a particular UK stamp of a certain denomination and I were a knowledgeable collector, I'd enter the precise description of the stamp I was looking for without having to bother with too many small lightly used categories. It would seem to me that not cluttering up the main categories and sub-categories with sub-sub-categories would be better.

You have summed it up nicely, Jabek!

The new category system is, in every case that I have looked at, worse than it was before.

One problem is the frequent requests for additional sub-categories. The answer is nor ever increasing subcategories but good titles which allow buyers to search efficiently. It always amazes me that some stamp sellers do not even put the date of issue in the title.
If we had fewer subcategories it would make it better for buyers who just want to browse.
