Ah, thanks. That explains it, now why didn't I think of that... make an offer listings will massively skew the stats of course. Indeed, I'd say they make the value stats meaningless.

I wouldn't even offer 99 cents for that piece of junk, but maybe somebody will fancy it.

ps: how did you find it?

Older and rare musical instruments can fetch silly money and guitars are particularly sought after by collectors.

So I searched for 'guitar' then refined the search to show the most expensive one first

It seems you are missing the point.

My guess is that what the eBid management are doing behind the scenes has screwed up the layout. I took a snip of the shot above but if you highlight the information you get this:
    £2,519,647,916
    GROSS MERCHANDISE VALUE
    3,405,900
    ITEMS FOR SALE

It says on the main front page of eBid at the moment that there are 3,911,635 items for sale and 2,795,044,441 gross merchandise value, so something is out of sync !

It surprises me that the guitar listing has not been bounced out as the management are usually quite vigilant about dodgy high-priced listings.

It is now several hours later and the numbers are still out of sync. Compare the figures you quoted from the bottom of the eBid pages with the figures on the link to the front page below.

    £2,519,647,916
    GROSS MERCHANDISE VALUE

    3,406,055
