As I am listing odd stuff in random categories at the moment, I see that it is not just the craft categories that have gone crazy. Will the rationalisation spread over the whole site? Please! 19 categories under advertising for John Deere merchandise? How many items are there in those 19 categories? 8! 9 if I search on ebid usa!

I had started to calm down, but I'm back angry because this thread has been abandoned by management.

There have often been conspiracy theories that eBid is not really trying to be a selling site but just a place where people click on the ads or a place where the money is made out of lifetime subscriptions.

I have never believed either (the fact that I became a lifetime seller+ member for free because I was here before the charges came in may contribute to that), but with the most baroque category system and the ghastly drop-down which a seller has to use to select from it, I start to suspect that sellers are not really the point.

new sub cats under collectables for buttons

    break down:-
    plastic
    glass
    metal
    veg ivory
    wood
    mixed lots
    pearl shell
    other

most buttons have been dumped in other such as mother of pearl, antique metal, brass uniform buttons, rhinestone buttons (should be under glass),lucite button (should be in plastic, victorian cut steel buttons (should be under metal),victorian glass buttons (should be under glass),a set of art nouveau buttons priced at 199.00 (listed under other!!)

I can only assume these cat changes are site wide and loads of items have been dumped in OTHER. What is the point of telling people to to list items in the correct cats (advice which appeared in a recent ebid blog or news sheet) if you havent told them about the catergory changes??

Browsing eBid has become a mug's game. Searching still works, of course but serendipity is off the menu

I would guess that the reason for the items being placed in the "other" category is that the person who set up the new system does not have time to go through the leftovers and sort them into whichever is the correct new category.

I am just hoping that when the new system is brought in that folks who have had their listings moved will be notified by the management, so that we will know about it.

Also advance warning of the precise dates / times of the change would be good, so that we can back up appropriately.

(Think I will be taking my stuff off-sale, so that I can check everything is as it should be before continuing)

While I agree that the sorting into new categories was probably beyond eBid resources, telling us about the new cats would have been sporting.

However, I still feel that the whole thing is overblown.

Listing anything in collectables which isn't a "sell similar" is just awful. The scrolling is endless.

Please! Cut the number of subcats!

On some of my relists / revisions (like coins, for example), I'm finding that there are changes to the categories and it's a dog's breakfast.

Plus, I agree about the crafting categories ... I've just starting adding some scrapbooking items and the categories are a problem there too.
