    Default Internatal Posting

Hi, As I am soon going to be uploading the new postal rates I thought that it would be an opportune time to expand to international selling. However before I do so I have some questions:

    Continents Options

Since I last listed items to sell abroad the format of eBid has changed, before there was just a list of the Countries that eBid served and you checked whcihever you required. Now however there is now the option of ticking various continent options. I am guessing that this will signify that I am willing to sell to anywhere in that continent. Is it possible to exclude a specific Country/Territory? For example if I selected Africa would I be able to block Nigeria (with the number of scams emanating from there I would not want to risk selling there.

Also is there an explanation somewhere of which Countries are in each continent? I ask as the word Europe could be anything on the geological continent of Europe, or any of the various European designations: European Union / European Economic Area or others.

    Scams

As mentioned above I am aware of the Nigerian problem and have heard of quite a few problems from Russia. Although whether that is Russia as it is now, or Russia as it was (the old Communist Block) I am not sure. Are there any other scamming hotspots that I should be aware of?

    Postal Systems

While on the subject of security I am wondering if there are any Countries with particular problems with items going missing. I guess that not all postal services are as secure as they could be.

    Responsibility

I know that there are lists out there of various items that are prohibited, but as far as I know mine should be okay (books and DvDs). Would I be okay to put in my Terms & Conditions that it is the buyer should check that the item is okay to be imported? Also that they are liable for any import tax.

I have just had a look at the Royal Mails very brief document on prohibited items for International postage and was astounded (it is only 1422 pages long. With no search facility to locate individual Countries.

    Thanks for your help.

"there is now the option of ticking various continent options"

that tick option has always been there, at the moment i just tick the countries im willing to ship too, i dont tick allowing for whole continents, as for countries that are unsafe to ship too, nigeria is always the first that comes to mind, its very very difficult take italy has a bad reputation but you cant label all the people the same, so i take the philosophy if they want it bad enough they will contact you, you then have time to check the buyer out the best you can,

if yo used a tracked international service the same service will vary from country to country, i can not fault japans recording of a tracked item, but the same service in Thailand will be hit and miss at the best, it all depends on the value of the item, parcel force premium service is second to none but the price is a premium one too.

I recently had someone from Russia asking for a quote for postage on an item. When I looked into it I found the service I would normally have used for overseas stated that they'd suspended sending to Russia because of problems with customs clearance.

Italy's postal service can be rather slow, I'm told. Google 'italian postal service problems'.

I have had too many items go missing in Malaysia, so it is not included on my list.

My apologies for disappointing you Olivia, yes that would have been interesting. By the time I realised the error I had already had 2 replies. I did try to correct the title, unfortunately only the text in the posts can be altered; so I decided to leave it as it was.

LMBO! I noticed it was misspelled but didn't give a second thought about it actually meaning something! Great "catch" Olivia!

You need to be mindful of "Europe" as this does cover Greenland, Iceland, and many islands adjacent to the Artic circle. When using my business account on Royal Mail they have EU and Europe as separate entities even though for me there is no difference in price.

I have never sold anything to Russia so I cannot comment on any possible issues there. I have sold to many customers across Europe via eBay and eBid mainly the former (Italy, Spain, Germany, Holland, Sweden, Switzerland and several other countries) and I have never encountered any problems apart from delivery outside of the normal time frame that customers normally expect but this is often down to customs clearance delays or weather delays at specific times of the year or public holidays.

I have shipped to Australia without any problems but you can become a victim of fraudulent claims from Malaysia and surrounding countries in World Zone 2 so I would advise not to ship to such places.

Via selling activities on eBay I have sold items to South America where I have encountered issues of slow delivery and as an example, three items took the best part of 35-40 days to be delivered via standard airmail services. I have sold to Mexico as well on two occasions via eBay and have not experienced any issues here although other people may have other experiences but when dealing with Star Wars collectors like I do then I tend to not have any issues with most destinations outside of Europe where I am willing to ship too although a lot of sellers do tend to be wary of selling/shipping to Mexico and South America.

Just make sure you keep up to date on restricted items for shipping, banned items. Make sure you have accurate shipping prices too.

It would benefit you to have your own scales, kitchen ones are best to weigh in grams/kg and can be picked up cheap enough so you can check the weight against the price on the Royal Mail website so you can offer accurate shipping costs and it shows some professionalism when doing this too as it is unfair on the customer for a seller to try and attempt to charge them more (the difference) for shipping when the seller has under priced their postage costs because they're too lazy to check things in advance. We always pack and weigh things in advance here so we can deliver accurate shipping prices for Europe, and zones one and two so we never over or under charge.

That may be one meaning, but "Internatal care refers to a package of healthcare and ancillary services provided to a woman and her family from the birth of one child to the birth of her next child" makes more sense to me.
