Old, I found myself having to tell a caller to the house your advice about my orchid. He has one, too. Odd conversation "This bloke I don't really know who lives in Australia says...

I usually use the expression "an e-friend" which, when I first had them, was a really strange thing to most people. Now almost everyone understands without explanation.

Oh great term - I'm gonna steal that!

But the pressure is too much - & I'd hate for some bloke in Oz to get the blame if it falls off the twig! SO

Here's one of my sources of info I follow on Y'tube - check her out (& the many other growers linked to her channel)
    2nd opinions are always handy!

A little hint/tip - AND a follow up on my war with cockroaches in the orchid house!

Well it appears there were more of the nasty little blighters out there than I thought!
No wonder things were being chewed up! BUT
After leaving several bait stations & a couple of traps on the shelves, it appears to be having the desired result - Hip hip - hooray!

    The tip/hint:

A retired commercial pest controller once told me the best way to trap & dispose of cockroaches, & I pass the idea on to you!
This is what he used in his own home.

Cockroaches LOVE banana - if you grow bananas or have the fruit exposed in the house, you WILL have cockroaches! They can't resist the stuff.
So - get a tallish clean glass jar with a lid, the type used for jams/jelly, pickles or peanut paste/butter & put a thin smear of Vaseline/Petroleum jelly on the inside top half an inch or so!
Place a few slices of banana in the bottom & sit them in usual spots. Believe me, if you have any roaches in the area, the bottle will soon have some in it.
They can't get out 'cause they slip back in thanks to the p/jelly - simply spray with insecticide & slap on the lid, then dispose of in the rubbish.

    Opened FINALLY
Way back in January I mentioned that my Laelia anceps was forming a flower spike! WELL
It has finally decided to open & I guess it was worth the wait
This is its first flowering for me & I hope it will improve in the future.
A native species to Mexico & Honduras, this example has a spike 3 feet long & carries 2 blooms 4 -5 inches across, with a faint sweet honey perfume.

I am to gardening what Brian Blessed is to ballet dancing!

Imagine my surprise when some tulip bulbs I planted in November (yes November) have actually grown and flowered.
I had no idea that they opened wide in the sunshine!

Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it is about learning to dance in the rain.
