I'm the king of cheapo, but good-o...been using thse yogurt cups for years. A teflon cut to fit the bottom, allows excellent drainage. When ready to plant just slide the seedling out and into the planting hole..I make my own mix and nothing can be better. equal amounts of vermiculite, peat moss and compost. ( compost is my own also ).

Great tip Jimmy - I'm guessing a "teflon" is some sort of pot scrubbing device?
A better idea than I had using cut up shade cloth inserts

    Great ideas!

Now, some advice please. This is my birthday present from Jan 2014. The picture was taken in Jan 2015. Now, in March 2016, after producing 4 spikes of flowers and never being without a bloom for over 2 years, it is about to run out of buds. How should I take care of it to give it a chance of flowering again, please?

Hi Madelaine, some Phalaenopsis orchids will re-bloom from the old flower spikes! Yours may be one of these?
If the spikes remain green, then leave them on the plant & they will eventually re flower, although probably not as nice as the first time.
If they turn brown & obviously die off, then they can be cut off close to their base, & the plant will send up new spike/s when it's ready.
Your plant appears to be in very good condition, so I would continue with the same regime that it has been getting to date.
One other point - some growers believe that by removing spent flower spikes, the plant will put its energies into leaf growth rather than supporting old spikes that may or may not re-flower well? So it's up to you how you treat the old spikes!
For eg. one of my plants took over 12 months to re-bloom with 2 miserable flowers on an old spike, & I'm thinking now that I would have been better off removing them to allow for better leaf growth & eventual "new" spikes

Maybe known better as Scotch-Brite. Not something I would use on anything with a Teflon coating.

They can be used as a course filter, I used them to make some new filters for my hover mower - good airflow but stop grass particles entering the motor.

No worries Madelaine - be interested to know what you decide & how it goes!
Thanks Mel - yep, am familiar with Scotch-Brite

Lost another very young head of blooms to what I think are cockroaches in the orchid house
So I've taken to enclosing developing buds in plastic mesh bags in the short term & until they harden up, while I sort out the problem!
