    Grevillea update & NEW orchids!

G'day all, well this Sunday morn, I decided to hit a popular local country flea market about an hour south east of me to look for orchids! As is my want!
Picked up a few "new" Epidendrums of colours I didn't have. There wasn't a lot of orchids to choose from, as I prefer species plants, & most of what was available were hybrids. Anyhow, I'm happy I went.

But first, a couple of shots of my "freebie" Grevilleas, that I have potted up into 5" pots (my glasses case in front for scale)
I think I'll let them grow too big for these pots, B4 planting them out in the front yard! Hopefully that will only take 1 season?

Cheers all - glad you like them!

Those Epi blooms are like me, past their prime, but I had to catch a pic of them B4 it was too late.
This type of orchid grows really well for me under my conditions, so I hope it won't be too long for them to develop & re-bloom.
I have a couple of Oncidiums (Dancing Lady) orchids in spike ATM, so it shouldn't be long B4 more pix appear.

Hey all - Just had some fantastic news yesterday!

About a year & a half ago? (don't know if anyone will remember?) I ordered a flask of baby orchids, of a type that I have been lusting after for many years!
To get a specimen of this orchid here, is very very difficult (nearly impossible) It is a little easier to get hold of in parts of Europe & maybe the US? BUT to import one from there to down under, is a rigmarole & expense of the highest order! (hence its rarity here I guess)
Also, it doesn't help, that this plant is on the endangered list, & getting it across borders is a nightmare.

Anyhow - I have finally got word that my flask of some 12 baby plants are ready & should be sent by air courier today from far north Qld. Yeah!
All I have to do when I get them, is to hopefully grow them on to flowering size (say in 4/5 years time) assuming they survive?

Here are a couple of net shots of what I'm hoping mine will eventually turn into! Wish me luck.

This is a species orchid, Cattleya rex which is native to Colombia, Peru & Bolivia

I it very pretty, and if they are on the endangered list I hope you will help it to survive a bit longer with your tender care

OK folks! the baby Cattleya rex seedlings have arrived - Yeah! AND all in one piece too (this isn't always the case)
These little fellas can stay in their flask until next August if I can manage it, but this depends on the nutrients in the agar gel lasting till then?
In the meantime, they will sit in a warm spot with lots of indirect natural light, but out of direct sunlight, as they can bake in the glass.
Pictured on my glasses case again for scale!

Those are so cute!! Can they survive in the bottle with it being closed up to the air??

I had another houseplant bloom right after I brought them in this year. I call it a "Pineapple Plant" but it is not grown from a real pineapple top (which would be something interesting to try!) The blossoms look like little cauliflower florets and smell heavenly!!
