You are right. It is not an Orchid but related to Ginger, which is closely related to the Canna Lily. Husband (who bought it) can't remember its name sorry.

Hi all - long time no see! - Hasn't been a lot going on 'round here of late, but that's all changing, now the warmer weather is upon us down here.
SO! - here are 2 of my latest orchids in flower ATM, & more to follow soon.

First is Ansellia africana 'The Leopard Orchid' so called due to the spots. This is native across most of Africa & occurs along the dry warm coastal & river systems.
A first time flowering for me, & no scent that I could detect.

Next is Dendrobium pierardii also a first flowering for me on this small seedling. This is native to China, India, East Himalayas, Maldive Islands, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Loas AND Queensland

As always they are lovely. Not much going on in the garden here. I suppose I ought to plant something that flowers in the autumn, rather than spring and summer

OK folks - here we go with another species orchid just out & a first time bloomer for me!
Supposed to be fragrant, but I guess it hasn't developed yet?
It is Dendrobium jenkinsii which is native to China, Assam, East Himalayas, Nepal, Myanmar & Laos

Michaelmas daisies flower in September and October and they give the bees a last minute feed before hibernation

Just beautiful, Old!!! Love the Leopard - the last picture looks like it's sticking it's tongue out at you!

Not much going on in my garden these days. Like Meebo, I need more fall blooming flowers. I've got a few but they are small and not showing well.

Having those trees cut last year was very hard on my shade flowers this year. I have a lot to move next year as they start to come up. I'd like to "terrace" the hill behind the house where it can be seen through the living room window, but that would be a major job! I should have done it when I moved here 18 years ago and the "old bod" was in better shape...oh, well.....

I've been busy re-potting some of my house plants and will have them all back in by the end of the week. It's supposed to get below 50 next week. We'll see - they were forecasting it was supposed to dip below 50 this week and that changed. But regardless, they are coming in this week so I can move on to other things before winter gets here. The pond liner seems to have sprung a leak, as I can only keep about 2 ft of water in it so that needs to be drained now so the frogs can find another place to hibernate before winter. Hubby wants a deck by next spring and we'll be moving the fire pit and seating, so may as well move and incorporate the pond into the deck while we're at it.
