Anybody know what this herb is? A neighbour gave me some cuttings to try. She said she uses it in salads & stews etc.
I think she called it either 5 spice or Allspice??? It has a strong scent that I can't describe - sort of a mixed spicy mint type smell.

Below is the result of my African Violet cutting propagation (I have two white & one purple ATM) The largest leaf is 4" x 3" with a drink coaster for reference.
    Enjoy!

It looks like a mint leaf with a white edge, so possibly the same family

This is my Petrocosmea martinii flowering at present. It lives in an unheated north-facing greenhouse. It is related to African Violets.Name: DSC00315.jpg

OLD - are the stems round or square? If square, it is from the mint family and some mints can smell more like a spice than a mint. Allspice is made from the dried fruit that grows on a bush.

Your violets are lovely!! I had several that I brought here with me but just didn't have the right conditions for growing them - maybe I ought to try Tony's Petrocosmea martinii??? It sounds a little more hardy than the violets.

    G'day guyz

Great name for an African Violet relative "martinii" - I like it, & the similarity to their African cousins is very strong.
The herb has round stems & I think it must be related to the mint family. They just got potted up into your actual "dirt" yesterday.
I've also got around to potting on my variegated leaf cuttings of the African Violet I've had in a water bath (waiting for root development) that I was given by my SIL
All my orchids are now in their winter dormant period, so not much happening on that front. It'll be mid to late August B4 any action starts again with them.
    Glad you like the pix

That's the kind of orchid I need!!!! Beautiful!! It looks like what we call a Canna Lily - do you know it's Latin name? Often I find that identical flowers have different "common" names depending on where you live.

Very nice Madelaine! Looks to be in robust health to boot.
I don't know much about terrestrial orchids, if you have a species name I'd be interested to know?
