Those daffs must be as tough as old boots!
I'm amazed the flowers survive under snow.

Hi all - here's the latest couple of orchids in bloom ATM.
They have flowered for me before, but I think they are worth another look this season.

First is Epidendrum porpax - a native of Colombia & Venezeula. A miniature plant with the blooms to three quarters of an inch & no scent that I can detect.
Second is Dendrobium bigibbum var compactum X Den. Emma Pink - this is a cross bred plant & relates to our famous State floral emblem "The Cooktown Orchid"
Again, no scent & blooms to 4" diameter. This season I scored 3 flowers - Yea!
    ENJOY!

They look so pretty. I had to say good bye to 3 of mine. They were just dead. I think they may have had too much water while I was on holiday

Yes, that would do it Meebs - I can't tell you how many orchids I've drowned over the years.
Most epiphyte type orchids, like to be thoroughly drenched & then completely dry out, between waterings.

Very interesting Mael - thanks for that. You have some lovely terrestrial native orchids over there!
We have a lot down here also - but none nearly as showy as yours. Also, many of them don't survive in, or easily transplanted to home cultivation.
Nearly all, are endangered & protected in any case, therefore prohibited in private collections.

    G'day all

Okee dokee - here we go with another Orchid first time bloomer for me - Yea!

This is Epidendrum eburneum - a species native to Central America & the West Indies.
It is nocturnally fragrant, but I got a whiff early this morning of a faint sweet spice, or the scent of new sawdust.
The flower is about 2.5" or 6 cms. diameter overall. This bloom surprised me this morning as I had no idea it was coming into flower. (its nocturnal habit I guess)
I might sneak out tonight to see what it smells like in the dark! - Enjoy!

fritillaries - a wild flower which we planted and has gone berserk in our garden

and tulips planted by the people we bought the house from have flowered yet again.. we call them the tulips of Hope because tulips have never done two years for us before and this is now year 14.
