Default What's Goin' On - In My Garden!

G'day all - I'd love to see what's what in your garden, so feel free to add your garden related stuff here! Naturally, orchids in bloom will be my main additions as they flower. So to kick off - here's my latest two in bud ATM.

First is a miniature, "Vanda testacea" which is native from India through to Indochina. This plant is in a 2 inch pot & the flowers are 15mm across. This is its first time flowering & has a very faint sweet perfume.

Second, we have a rare type of leafless orchid (also a miniature) "Chiloschista pusillum" native to China, Malaysia & Vietnam. I'm very proud to say that I've raised this plant & its siblings, directly out of their seedling flask, & finally to adult flowering size. (about 18 months) It has a strong very sweet honey perfume with the blooms only 10mm across.

Hoping to see what's happening at your place soon!

They are lovely. I wish I had more space and time to devote to orchids. I thought mine were all resting for the winter. I was wrong. When it's light I will take a photo

Not so glam as your orchids but it is autumn here - We bought this plant from the dying shelf in B&Q for next to nothing. It had four droopy leaves then. This week, after nearly 10 years, it is flowering as is the mahonia in front of it.

I look forward to that meebo

Great rescue Madelaine, what a cool looking plant, what is it??? I've never heard of mahonia either, but they both are looking great.
Stuff doesn't have to be glamorous here, in fact I'm thinking of putting up pix of a particularly nasty bug called the Dendrobium beetle, I have an annual battle with, that attacks my orchids.
Also thinking this place could be used for gardening related tips & tricks, advice & answers (from the collective power of our user base) flora, fauna (of all types), seasonal pix, & whatever grows, inhabits or invades your garden, good or bad.
So don't be shy people, please share your world with the rest of us. Cheers, Allen.

The trifid is a Fatsia Japonica - quite frequently seen in gardens here.

Thanks Madelaine, a nice sculptural plant for a garden!
After doing a bit of research, your Mahonia appears to be M. lomariifolia ??? another nice one in the garden.

The Fuchsias always wait until it is not the weather for actually being in the garden before they put on their best show. Here is the first.. more to follow (our garden is ideal for them).

I also have Fuchsias growing in the garden Madelaine, they flower bigger and better every year and don't mind the frosts at all.
Here are a few of mine, all photos here were taken today.

Here are a few of my palms. The one in the foreground which has the Lamb's Ear Stachys byzantina growing next to it is Mediterranean Fan Chamaerops humilis which I have grown from seed. The middle one with the yellowing leaves (it's a heavy feeder, and needs pruning down) is a 'Waggie' Trachycarpus wagnerianus. The tallest isn't a true palm, its cordyline australis AKA Torbay or Cornish palm. It's a nuisance really, as it is forever shedding it's dead leaves all over the garden, and flocks of birds descend to eat the seeds when they are ripe!
(The 'contraption' in the background next to the rabbit/guinea pig hutches is a frame OH made to stop the pesky birds from pecking away at the flower buds on the enclosed cherry tree, resulting in no cherries each year. It must have worked because this year we did have fruit - but they weren't cherries - they were apricots ...lol!! ) We dug it up and have replaced it with a 'proper' cherry tree, as the apricot fruit wasn't very nice!
