Thread: What's Goin' On - In My Garden!

I'm glad to hear that - how else would you get a Christmas tree to decorate?? LOL!! Firs are most closely related to the genus Cedrus (cedar). Douglas firs are not true firs, being of the genus Pseudotsuga. But Firs don't smell nearly as good as a cedar tree

G'day all - Here's the latest orchid in flower ATM

This is a species native to Venezuela & at least 6 other Sth. American countries.
This is its first flowering for me, & I'm blessed to have 2 spikes, each containing 5 or 6 developing buds.
Said to be fragrant, but I haven't noticed that as yet. (may be too early)
This is Cattleya violacea, & each bloom is about 6" across - so should be a beautiful display when they're all fully open? Enjoy!

Hi all - Here's the latest orchid in bloom ATM

This is a second time flowering for me, & this season, she has decided to push out 2 spikes for me - Yea!

It is Gongora galeata, a native species of Mexico & has blooms each 2" across. Enjoy! - Glad everyone likes the pix.
A medium to strong scent similar to sweet spicy orange. Some say it's like freshly laundered shirts? - but to me it's like crushed black sugar ants!

your orchids are obviously enjoying the high temps you are having. Here I have spotted little green shoots coming out of the ground. I think they are some very nosy daffodils

Yes meebo, they are loving the heat - as long as I keep the water up to them.
We are having a bit of a dry spell ATM, & I'm starting to worry that my tank water may? run out B4 the next rain?
Fingers crossed that it'll last. I'd hate to have to lash out on town water.
    Rain water's best - plus, it's free!

The daffs could be the first signs of spring approaching.

Wow - the purple one is so graceful! And the golden ones are so fascinating how the stems curve in such a neat repeating pattern!
Personally I don't know what squished sugar ants smell like, but I'll take your word for it!

COLD here....but I see the daffs are poking through about 6".. They usually bloom around my birthday, which is a nice treat, as I didn't plant most of them!!!
    Ta-Ta for now!

Just to show the world that this part of England is out from under the snow - complete cover on Sunday - this was taken Wednesday but could have been taken on Monday morning!

It looks so lush Madelaine, hard to believe its just been snow covered.
Feeling a slight nip of winter in the air here. I think you're correct on your Spring approaching soon!
I only have a couple of orchids in bloom ATM - but you've seen them B4 - my plants will be going into their short winter dormancy very soon.
