Hi, sometime ago I read that the Pinterest site was a must have, but as I was not selling at the time did not take much notice. I am aware that the official eBid feeds were cancelled. But can anyone give an understanding of what it is about and how it works please?

I have tried the usual channels for information: the Pinterest site tells you nothing unless you become a member. I am always suspicious of sites like that - what have they got to hide?

Also a search on here failed to dredge anything from the depths; Is it only me that is plauged by that captcha monstrosity that renders the "search" facility here un-searchable?

Anyway back to the subject Pinterest:

• How does it work?
• Is there any charge
• is it worthwhile?

Thanks for any info.

I just created one for my eBid stores recently.

How it works is you create a business account, create a board, and you can add pins by posting the links of your items in them. When you insert the link it will pull up all pictures on that page. Choose the one you want to use, add a description if desired, and that it.

There is no charge to sign up or post pins. There might be special promotional pin advertising packages you have to pay for, but it is overall a free service.

So far I have only had one sale on eBid in all my time here so I can't say if it is worthwhile or not. I do get views, likes, and repins on my pins. It works like eBid in the sense that the more pins you have, the more likely the items can be found.

This is what my Pinterest boards look like if you need an idea of how it looks. https://www.pinterest.com/amcer93spicking/

Pinterest is an online pinboard where you save your own 'pins' and other pins that interest you.

Once registered, Pinterest gives you a basic set of board titles to start pinning to, or delete them and set up your own boards. Then go exploring and start pinning! It's free, and can be VERY addictive. Link to my boards in my forum signature to give you an idea.

Whether it's worthwhile is anyone's guess; but I pin a few of my reposts onto my own eBid board and then repin after a while onto the various eBid and other selling group boards that I belong to. Just be aware that pinning more than 5-6 pins at once is considered spamming.

I don't have a business account and don't think you need one.

Pinterest is like Facebook without the angst, or the weirdos. I'm sure there are weirdos on there, but it is a lot harder to bear your soul on Pinterest.
You just pin pictures, items, blogs, advertisements or anything related to what interests you. I sell mostly collectables and vintage pens, so rather than just post links to my ebid pages, I can make up boards that encompass all kinds of things related to what I sell. It's more about engaging with an audience, rather than a hard sell. I quite like it.
I have no idea if Pinterest makes any difference to my selling performance, but I have noticed a slow increase in my pen sales.

A business account isn't essential, but it does give you analysis of who has shown interest in your pins, who has repinned them, their gender and what country they are from. I suppose a marketing geek may be able to make use of such data in developing a future business plan.

In regards to eBid Pinterest boards, if anyone is interested in joining a Viral board, I have 2 boards that I am making available for others to pin on. Just email me at spiritwolfartistry@gmail.com for an invite to join the board. Use " [Name of Board To Join] Invite in the subject line.

The first link is strictly for handmade items ONLY (any abuse or adding items that aren't handmade will cause me to evict you from this particular board - meaning no mass produced items on it.)
Handmade on eBid : https://www.pinterest.com/lindasuest...dmade-on-ebid/

And the other one is for anything except adult content
eBid Auctions : https://www.pinterest.com/lindasuestage/ebid-auctions/

Hopefully if we get enough folks to join, that will help in the re-pins.
