    Default Advice re banned stamps

paypal has issues with the following stamps, are there any other countries other than these 5?

    Sudan
    Cuba
    North Korea
    Iran
    Iraq

I sold sudanese stamps yesterday and the buyer offered to send me a cheque for them rather than pay via paypal.

Thanks in advance for any advice given

Those are the main 5, though I have had delays and checks for selling Ukrainian stamps as well. One way around the Paypal problem is to send your customer their eBid invoice BUT instruct them not to pay (you can not adjust the p&p to make it obvious), issue your customer with a direct Paypal invoice for the correct amount, referencing the eBid invoice number only, thus bypassing the Paypal bots and preventing any hassle. I have used this method on several occasions now with no problems.

    Hope that helps

    Regards John

Have you tried misspelling the names in you listing, to bypass the bots?

Clever idea but impractical. If you misspell the name how would potential customers search for the stamps they want.

its usually too late when a buyer purchases a eg, sudan stamp as its already logged by pigpal, then account goes pending, then its closed, then you beg, then they permanently close your account. and theres no recoarse, there decision is final. and theyve got my money.

Here's the complete list of countries prohibited by PayPal, meaning they will not accept payments from them or forward money to them. They apparently also decided to prohibit products made in all of them. Rather ridiculous when dealing with stamps and old coins, but we're stuck with it. I put a sentence in the description for stamps from these countries, stating I can only accept payment by check, to contact me and NOT pay immediately by PayPal, and explaining the reason.

    Belarus
    Burma (Myanmar)
    Cote d'Ivoire
    Democratic Republic of the Congo
    Iran
    Iraq
    Liberia
    North Korea
    Sierra Leone
    Sudan
    Syria
    Western Balkans
    Zimbabwe

Cuba was on the list originally, but I just checked and it appears to have been removed. I'm not taking the note off my Cuba stamps just yet, though.

As well as the 5 countries which Paypal imagines the US does not want to trade with, there is a further list of countries who do not want to trade with the US/Paypal. See https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mp...ited-countries

    • Belarus
    • Burma (Myanmar)
    • Cote d'Ivoire
    • Democratic Republic of the Congo
    • Iran
    • Iraq
    • Liberia (Former Regime of Charles Taylor)
    • Persons Undermining the Sovereignty of Lebanon or Its Democratic Processes and Institutions
    • North Korea
    • Sierra Leone
    • Sudan
    • Syria
    • Western Balkans
    • Zimbabwe

Here is my range of solutions.
Whenever I list Cuba etc, Paypal is not included on the options for payment, and no overseas postage options are offered.
    PPPay is included
    BACS is included
    Collection is included

I send a note with invoice to say that Paypal cannot be used (because of reasons relating to the internal politics of US).
    I suggest

    1. internet or mobile transfer (BACS)
    2. PPPay can be used
    3. stamps to the value of the invoice could be posted
    4. that an unitemised request for money could be sent

I find that the unitemised paypal request and PPPay do not work well all the time with overseas buyers, so I just cut out the option to save myself hassle.
