Thread: Help with old banknote valuations

  1. #1

Thumbs up Help with old banknote valuations

Website recommendations please, where my grandson can gauge the value of old banknotes he has in his collection from various countries.

They are not for resale, my grandson has researched their history, country, date, when they ceased being legal tender etc and would now like to know more about their present day value, if any, from a reference website.

    Try this one for starters...

    http://www.banknotes.com/intro.htm

Pricing appears to be in US dollars.

...and this appears to be useful

    http://www.worldnotes.co.uk/

Bear in mind that these are selling prices...but again this is not my field. Hope this helps

Thanks, I'll get him to look at them - I have just taken a quick look and they are very good starter websites for him.

Is great that your grandson has an interest in banknotes. He is fortunate to have a grandmother steering him in the right direction.

Having a hobby is something that my father instilled in me. He collected stamps, postcards, old books and coins. I still have some of his collections, unfortunately when I was burgled, I lost a lot, all irreplaceable.

I am glad that particular grandson has the same interests. I took him to the Bank of England when they were doing a presentation and a talk on banknotes, he was the only child there, and he was the only one asking questions. After the event, he was approached by staff and visitors who commented on his knowledge and for being the youngest 'banknote collector' they have come across. I hope he keeps it going.

He sounds like an up and coming collector/entrepreneur. He may even expand into some of the other collectibles areas you mentioned, such as coins. I'm particularly fond of coins - buying, collecting, and selling them. Yes, hopefully he will continue with his interest in banknotes.
