Default Windows 8 Copy Photos from memory card to Computer. I'm Lost

Transferring photos from memory card to computer on this Windows 8. Completely lost.

Can some one please point me to an easer programme to down load, whereby I can transfer from card to computer, edit resize and file and catalogue ready to transfer to the auction site.

The programme I used for at least 10 years was brilliant for a dummy like me,and of course did not take note of the programme.

    Thanks in advance.

I use Picassa, it is free from Google and allows you to download, store and edit your photos.

I use paint.net it's a free download for photo editing.

That's not Paint that comes with Windows.

I have used Irfanview for years. Free download, easy to use, has many extras--all free.

Are you saying that I don't have to install a camera software on my computer BUT go directly with moving pics from a memory card onto the computer? The reason I'm asking is because I have purchased a new camera but unfortunately the CD that came with it, crashed my computer It would be wonderful if I could go this route bypassing the CD installation altogether.

Not sure how old this thread is, I'm aware that some ppl dislike others posting on the old thread, however the topic fits my needs which is why I am posting.

    Thank you in advance.

For some years there has been no need for special programs or drivers to transfer photographs. Switch on camera and plug into PC and examine "My Computer"; you will find your camera as a drive which you may open...drag and drop the pictures as you would normally.

For quick and easy working I've always used "Irfanview" as software.

If you get a problem just ask.

I'm afraid this won't work. This Canon camera doesn't have an internal memory unlike my older camera that does have it. So I will end up with having to transfer the pics by some other means. Irfanview sounds good; will look into it.

This Canon camera will not take pics without a memory card. Each time I tried, got a message that it can't record it. You live and learn.

For years I have been using an older Kodak camera with a software downloaded without any problems, and moved the pics pretty much the way you describe. I don't know why I need a software to begin with as I don't use it other than transferring pics.

    Thank you

It has a card surely? and a usb output? That is all that is needed. You did not need the software for your Kodak camera and could have transferred as I describe.

I should add that many Canon cameras have a usb "switch" in the menu, so if your will not do as I say, check for that.
