Default Search Improvements : Generic Keywords

A habit of many shoppers is to type in a general/generic term for the items they are searching for.

    for example ps3 games

Our search system before would search for anything with ps3 + (game, games) in their listing titles. This would rule out the following title Gran Turismo 6 PS3

We implemented a new system recently whereby we would include any listings within very obviously related categories in search results for these generic terms. So in the example above we would show the normal search results PLUS any listings from within the Video Games : Sony : PS3 : Games category.

Some more we've added are :

    womens shoes
    mens shoes
    womens clothes
    baseball cards
    bags
    ps4 games
    xbox games
    toys
    art
    photography

We'd like to ask your help in suggesting any very obviously generic search terms that will rarely appear in the listing titles but are often used by shoppers for wide ranging searches.

Gazza, slightly off tangent to the above but relevant to the search.

Can you tweek the search so that first picks up 1st and vice versa. Should help the stamp and book sellers and buyers a little bit.

For example, at the moment 1st day cover returns 183 items and first day cover returns 31,118 (FDC and first day cover are covered but 1st should be linked as well). Likewise 1st edition returns 3,310 and first edition returns 1,592. Both of those examples should ideally return the same results.

Thanks for improving the Search facility Gazza,

    I have this suggestion..Postcards.

Returns 143,866 items using the Search in the green bar..

But there are 238,863 items listed in the Postcards category, that's a lot not being picked up.

    Please see this thread..

Is it possible to set up the search so that the same results are given whether a phrase is input as one word or two ie stick pins and stickpins or postcards and post cards or cook book and cookbook?
