    Default Lots of views yet

Are any other booksellers getting lots of views on their items but, alas, no orders following through?
If so why do you think that is?

Why do you have no shops ? If you have the seller+ lifetime then you get five free shops. I'm afraid I couldn't be bothered to look at more than the first couple of pages of all those listings but if you had your items in shops with categories then I might be able to find things I would be interested in.

Sales have been quiet for me this January and books are slow sellers but I did sell a book to a German newbie a couple of days ago. Make sure you have your ISBN numbers and bar code numbers filled in or put 'EXEMPT' if there is no number to get your items onto Google where a lot of the eBid buyers come in from.

    Good luck with the sales.

I agree with Cornishmaid about the stores, they are very helpful for people who are browsing.

I think another problem with selling things like books is the postage. It is now coming up to eight years since Royal Mail revised the postage system to bring in PIP. Whereby you pay for the item by weight and size rather than just weight as before. We sellers have adapted to the new system; but it seems that vast numbers of people are ignorant of the change. I am convinced that those who do not know the postal service take a look at listings and think we are taking advantage by hiking up the price. Even if you just add on the price of a jiffy bag and round up to the nearest 10p. the trouble is people expect to only pay the prices they were before the revision.

I work in an office and the number of letters we receive that are underpaid (either deliberatly or otherwise) is surprising.

I was trying to get as many books listed as possible before looking at the shops option. I understand that scrolling down nearly 2000 items at 50 per time can be a pain, but bear in mind I expect a potential buyer to be looking for a specific book title or subject - both of which allow access to my listed items instantly without having to scroll through unrelated titles.
I've still got loads more to add and am currently inputing many Military & War books to my listings. I enter ISBN numbers where I have them but pre 1970s books and Book Club edition don't give them.

I'll keep listing until the weather turns and I can get to do Car Boot sales. I really need the room!

I've taken your advice and opened a store - although having used up the maximum 30 caragories I think I need to open another one as I've still lots of other catagories to list.

You have 15 subcategories per main category.

    ie main category Science Fiction

Sub categories Star Trek, Doctor Who, etc etc.

I can't understand the benefit of stores when the categories are listed on the left of the search page and the seller puts their items in the proper category. In this case Books, Comics and magazine store would net the same as clicking on the Books, Comics and magazine category on Spot50's page???

    Books, Comics & Magazines(1,743)

    Collectables (189)

    Music & CD (12)

    Movies & DVD (11)

    Sport Memorabilia & Cards(10)

    Stamps (10)

    Toys & Hobbies (10)

    Computing (4)

    Clothes, Shoes, Accessories (2)

    Consumer Electronics (2)

    Dolls & Bears (2)

    Jewellery & Watches (2)

A store which is configured correctly is a great asset and will aid stock contol and the manipulation of listings details by the clever use of the bulk edit tool.

Also a store allows a seller to structure their catigories to suit their own needs. Below is an example of my stamp store structure.

    Great Britain Mint Stamps (468)

    • EIIR 1952-1970 PRE DECIMAL SG515-840 (141)
    • EIIR 1971-1980 DECIMAL SGX841-1142 (154)
    • EIIR 1981-1990 DECIMAL SG1143-1530 (139)
    • EIIR 1991-2000 DECIMAL SG1531-2177 (17)
    • EIIR 2001-2010 DECIMAL SG2178-3134 (2)

Does it aid in a buyer search? Or is it more of a seller tool?

I'm just asking because I have always seen advice given in the forums regarding stores. Sellers need to have stores so buyers can view items easier and so far I just can't realize how a store helps a buyer navigate a sellers items easier than how I just searched Spot50's items.
