You're very good at making sweeping statements!
You'll find that some people aren't buying books simply because they're bloody expensive.
I renewed my library membership a few months ago due to the cost of books.Even charity shops are getting dear.People I've spoken to in the library are of the same opinion.

blimey there are some doom and gloom merchants about at the minute. is it because we have hit October and SAD's have kick in.

I don't think you will ever fully get rid of DVD,CD and Books I think what it is is that there are to many copies of same books about same with dvd's and cd.
if every place you go there are the same tittles on the shelves with only a slight difference in price people will just grab it were ever is easiest which usually is when they do there weekly shop. so if you are selling books that are brand new or only a couple of months maybe up to a year old online the people that want them have already got them.
The way I see it if i was going to sell books would be to get a large amount new and old list the older harder to find ones first and then sell the newer ones in sets and have them as a lose leader. Aim to be the guy or girl online that specializes in selling those harder to find books at a reasonable price. the same for dvd and cd's when I shop for these I get the ones that are special by which I mean special edition 2 disc set different art work or the one that comes with freebies. with CD's most of my shelves are fill with promos and imports.
People that sell books online and then spout that book sales are dead makes me want to have a look at what they have listed and I find page after page of titles that I could get anywhere and most of the time at a cheaper price so it is not all book sales that are dead it is there book sales that are dead.
This by the way is not how I feel about the OP's books there are some good titles there and i will probably dip in for a purchases when i get some free cash.

I came here from the bay when they decided to up the cost of a basic store by over 100% a month so I had the listed that and they will sell mentality. which is a bit like list them and leave them there the people that will want them will find them one day.
I had a good grasp on google base at the time and would import my listings to google through that.
About the same time as the store increase on the bay google fell out with the bay and stopped there customers from submitting google base imports so that put the tin lid on me having a store on there.
I shifted my inventory of about 2000 comic books and toys to ebid after lots of reading and research but listed them all as BIN RTS the same as how I listed on the bay. This had some success but not a lot anywhere between 1 to 20 sales a month.
I had already learned from my time on the bay about trying to make the listings as professional with as much info about postage and returns etc and also about filling there about me page to help buyers with that trust issue that a lot of online buyers have.
About 18 months ago I was reading the forum about the pros and cons of RTS advised by some helpful forum posters to change my listings to auto re-lists and to edit the listings so that they would appear more prominent in both googles natural search and there shopping search.
I was skeptic to start with then after the first month after the changes I had sold 80 comic books. I also notice that as the auctions finished and then re-started they were more visible on the site itself with them appearing in the newly listed sections and the closing soon sections.
I then started to ask my customers how they found me and a good 70% advised from google searches. so I started and still do most day to edit my listing so that they are more google friendly things like making sure all listings have bar codes or exemption and brand names make the tittles google friendly (no all caps and little or no comma dashes under sores etc) and key word place in the first 200 characters of the listing.
I also spend a lot of time with pricing well not really price in but I check that a lot of my comics are cheaper then on the bay and under list prices.
I am only a hobbyist selling off doubles and stuff I come across on my travels but since January of of this year i have had an increase in sales per month up until august which is normally a quite month on what ever site you list with an average of 100 sales per month.
If I didn't work full time and had more time to edit and list more I am sure i could get that figure higher.

Not being a large bookseller, (just the odd ones here and there), I'd have to say I've done OK with non-fiction but haven't had much luck selling fiction books, though I expect others may have different experiences.

Best wishes for many sales to all,

I'm following the advice given on this, and other threads, and gradually adding (mainly books) to my listings. I'v not had any further puchases after what could be described as a 'bit of a rush' but I'm trying to remain optimistic. What I REALLY like about this site is that once you've put the details in that's it. no disappearing after 30 days unless you relist....brilliant. With over 2000 items in our spare room, it'll prove to be a godsend, as Mrs Spot50 is fed up with me spending all this time on the internet (have done for over 6 years) and even more fed up that she can't get into the spare room - she opens the door, tuts.. and shuts it again.

Does anyone have advice on what's best to list at this time of year. I've put a load of horror books on, hoping to catch the Halloween market. and obviously Christmas is coming up so thinking of putting annuals, humour and gift books on, But do cookery book sales pick up (I'm thinking they may be bought as gifts)? What about travel writing and maybe travel guides, is it better to put those on mid December to catch the January rush to book holiday? Any experienced advice will be greatly appreciated.

    I sold 2 books today - <That's the good news>

Sold at a knock down price - <Good news again (For buyer)>

No money in books nowadays due to saturation of the marketplace and postal charges.

I'll be closing my shop after Christmas.

I only make money on specialist books on the River nowadays.

I have just started listing my motoring manuals and catalogues on here and am now actively starting to run my ebay shop down. They are a disgrace to the retail trade as they not only charge fees on postage costs but also actively lie by saying there are no problems with visibilty. We need many more to make the switch and then watch it change
