Thread: Cocktails!!! and Music

    Hello everyone!

Bah humbug! I'm not too happy with this weather ..... stifling hot, flies and wasps everywhere and NO RAIN!

I got all excited yesterday afternoon 'cos heavy rain and thunder was forecast. I lit the firepit and burnt all the garden waste - mostly the brown leaves from the underskirts of the Cabbage palms. I got all the washing in, put all the garden furniture away & kids toys, placed buckets at strategic points and ensured that the water butt would collect the valuable rain water, and then proceeded to sit and watch the radar map of the rain coming in on google. We got NOTHING! The rain bypassed us. JR is out now watering the flower beds and the greenhouse stuff - we are on a water meter so double groans from me!
No signs of rain at all in the foreseeable future. Rant over !

I have been listening to all the choons, and I remember Quo doing that live broadcast on R2 - I listened to it live!
Thanks for all the choons books and Old, some corkers there!

    Here's a trio from me ....

Another wonderful professional rendering from you Old, you sure are very talented.
Oh - that is so sad about the farmers topping themselves because of the tough times.
I watched a special programme on the box yesterday - our farmers here in East Anglia are also suffering big time.
To add to their misery of the drought, they are having to contend with arsonists who have set fire to their stashes of hay and also thieves that are stealing all their equipment - the cops are very loathe to intervene apparently. (Hmmm .... )
The programme also showed the misery of commuters from here to London - even though they have painted the rail lines white, they have still buckled in the heat and there has been numerous fires along the tracks.

Shes, I love the "Redneck Entertainment" lol! We have three jars of jam and water placed about the garden - which has cling film over the top with an entry for the wasps. The clever ones escape, but some are a bit dumb and cannot find their way out!
At least it's keeping them away from us - we think we have a nest somewhere as there are so many buzzing about.
So glad that you are enjoying a peaceful, drama free life, remember that you are still convalescing young lady - so don't get over-doing everything!

Wyo, how's things in your neck of the woods? Have you made any good pot roasts lately? You know that you have to share! Hope Sadie is keeping cool with all that lovely fluffy coat that she has - at least it's not black like my Reina and poor deceased Kaiser.... (sheds a tear, so miss him )

I have to go now guys, Dom is on his way home and I have to get his dinner ready - he wants Lemon Chicken and rice - ugh! I'm blerdy well fed up of cooking in this heat!

Love the sound quality on those soundcloud recordings, a great tune.
Like you I have seen Eric Bogle many times though sadly he is no longer coming back over here, as he and John Munro said last time we saw them they are getting too bloody old to travel all this way.

Here's a few from the last time we saw him and John at Southwell Folk Fest. By the way it was raining that day !!!

I don't think anyone has written songs about the stupidity of war better than Eric.

G'day all - thanks everybody, glad you like my playin'

My Mum was a big fan of Eric & at one point she wrote to him asking about a song of his that she couldn't find in the stores.
Eric very generously, sent her back an autographed CD album, dedicated to her, that the tune appeared on. I still have that CD.
Here's a few more of the great Eric Bogle to be goin' on with, including some of his very funny numbers - Enjoy!

Always love hearing Eric's songs. It's a shame that some don't get the irony in some of his songs. He is truly a great commentator on modern life as well as a being able to express the devastation of past conflicts. Maybe some of his war songs should be used in history classes around the world.

    Hey all!!

Something has been bugging me since the last time I was here. I was familiar with the Peggy Lee song Wyo posted but other lyrics kept coming to mind. I'm taking a day off so I decided to search. This is the song that my grandmother sang to me. Old - you might like this vid as it is a little risque for the 40's I wonder if Peggy Lee's song was a "reply" to this one???

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53XaldRYk5M

It's still hot here but cooler than normal for August. We finally got some rain last night - lots of thunder and lightning but only about 10 minutes of rain The dust is just too much for me so I'm in the house most of the time with the AC on. I now have 5 sycamore trees growing in the flower bed. Every where around here is getting plenty of rain - I talked to a friend for over an hour just 20 miles south and it rained the entire time. The creek beside the house is only a foot wide in places. I guess I'll choose to be grateful that we don't seem to get the tornado activity here that they do just north and south of this area? And grateful that we are only "bailing our farmers out" due to an economic reset?? LOL!!

I haven't got my "roundtoit" yet - must be lost in the mail?? I did spend the last 4 days listing clothes, shoes and accessories on FB to test the waters there. I've got a ton of unshippable items to get rid of as soon as I get a "roundtoit" for that! I included a plug for my eBid store in the posts.

Enjoyed your Aussie BBQ Songs! And I figured the CATaluina boys would bring my cats running - not! LOL! Your Ashoan Farewell was beautifully done! Description mentioned a "Civil War" series????

Books - try to stay cool - nylon should be outlawed in the heat! Not that I wear dresses much, but I was brought up that if you wear a dress, you wear nylons. Imagine my shock to move to the south and see all these "ladies" not wearing their stockings with dresses!! The first time I wore a dress, I found out why it's permissible down here - lol! Good choons - totally forgot that William Shatner tried to sing - lol! Paloma Faith has a beautiful voice - I grew up hearing Mama Cass' version.

Trish - I'm with you about the weather but here it is FLEAS and Fruit Flies. Your solution with the jam in the jars sounds a bit "Redneck" to me - lol!!

It is very sad about the plight of the farmers in Oz and now the UK. Arsonists and thieves?? Why on earth would someone want to set fire to their hay? And just how does one get away with stealing farm equipment? It's huge and makes so much noise??? And rail lines buckling - just how hot is it there?

I've been to physical therapy now. I got some exercises to do at home to "stabilize" my neck and when I feel I'm ready for more, I'll go back and get some. Once stabilized, we'll work on strength - although I've already unloaded 50 lb bags of feed and moved 2 bales of hay from the truck to the feed shed with no problem - of course I didn't have to buck 'em like I used to do in the barn - lol!

I'm still getting my "music fix" from the TV concerts. I saw Bad Company at the Bomb Factory in Dallas:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCf1mGzg8yI

These were amateur vids from the concert - not great quality:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCf1mGzg8yI

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYxpwdHh69Y

I also saw Darius Rucker at Red Rocks - sang some very good songs but I wasn't really in the mood to hear "from the heart" love songs so I'll just post his most popular vid:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvKyBcCDOB4

I also watched the Monkees 50th anniversary concert - great videos in the background and of course I remembered all of the words - used to be my favorite TV show - lol! It was also kind of sad, since there's only two of them left

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JiitgyE4wGw

I've been into more upbeat and fun music lately so here's a couple that popped into my head:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNuVifA7DSU

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bfyS-S-IJs

I've sat too long, so I'd better get up and do something!

    Y'all take care!!

    Shes

    G'day all.

Well I have Bro & Sil plus his Father in Law visiting today, so I've been busy scraping the crusts off the house!
They usually take the 'ol guy on a day out somewhere once a month & it's my turn. They won't stay long, just a couple of hours & time for a cuppa 'n bickies!

Had my steel geetar social last Sunday, & dragged out the lap steel for a change. Had to re-learn some old numbers that I had forgotten about i.e. "It's Now or Never" "Teardrop" "My Blue Heaven" & "Ghost Riders in the Sky" - I don't have these recorded as yet, like the others I've been putting up.

Trish, we have the same problem down here ATM with people stealing bales of hay out of paddocks, so much so, that farmers have been warned to keep their stocks under cover in sheds & not left out in the open. We have enough trouble with natural fires also here of late, & anyone caught starting one on purpose would be in deep do-do I can tell you!
Also our Gubment, have just decided to spend more money on rural mental health, to help those on the land cope with our tough times. The drought shows NO signs of ending any time soon!

Shesa - loved the vid - MY those kids are rather developed for their age! - BTW, I think I had a dream similar to that vid last night.
We wouldn't bother with such puny rain barrels down here - ours are corrugated iron & a minimum of 1,000 gallons at the very least.
Ashokan Farewell was used as the theme song for a Ken Burns TV miniseries on the American Civil War & was first released in 1990.
The tune was written by Jay Ungar in tribute to an annual fiddle music camp in Ashokan (upstate NY) in the US, that he is involved with.
Although written in 1982, the song perfectly fits the Civil War era & was so right for the miniseries IMHO. Check it out on Y'tube.
Buckling rail lines are a regular occurrence down here in the hot weather, especially if not enough expansion gap has been left between the rails.
I also found that "Monkies" concert very sad, especially as Mike Nesmith is still with us, was the main talent of the group, but was either not invited, or unwilling to take part.
    Bad Company still sound great!

OK guyz 'n galz - it's back to the clean up, so ciao 4 now!

G'day all - Hope everyone is well.

Just thought I'd put up the links to those tunes I mentioned earlier.
These are by Doug Beaumier, whose teaching materials I use.
Can't say I play as well as he does, but I think I get close. - Enjoy!

Some great tunes as always. I've always loved the Santo & Johnny stuff.

After working the early shift today 7 -11 I managed to watch a bit of the cricket, not sure that Stokes should be playing, however he did make a vital catch late in the day. England need to make inroads early tomorrow or will be chasing a big total.

Anyway after I have been listening to some classic Northern soul so I thought I might share a few.

    G'day all Happy McMonday!

Can't say I was ever into soul music booksie - somehow it passed me by.
I do remember Under My Thumb by the Stones of course, & I see that Del Shannon also did a version (amongst others)
Looks like England are doing well V India (not that I've been following it)

Still no sign of rain here & there's fires all over the joint - Qld had over 100 statewide on Saturday, & the high winds didn't help. (it was gusting to over 60K's an hour here)
Wish we had some of Kerala's monsoon down here! ATM.

    Hope everybody else is well
