    REVELATION 21
    (Continued)

Revelation 21:24-25 The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their spendor into it.

    (25) On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there. [NIV]

The Scriptures mention the term walk, walks, walked, walking many times from Genesis to Revelation. To walk is to advance, to move, to actively follow a certain direction, to follow a certain course of life, to accompany someone, to follow a path, to be apart of a particular profession or occupation.

The nations who will walk by the light of the city, are those who have chosen to walk with the LORD God Almighty and the Lamb. (Rev. 21:22, 24) Blessed or happy are those who walk in the light of God's presence. (Psalm 89:15) The Apostle John stated that walking in the light, as the LORD is in the light, would result in fellowship with God and other believers, and purification from sin. (1 John 1:7 NIV)

The kings of the earth who choose to walk with the LORD God Almighty and the Lamb, will bring their splendor and majesty into the holy city. (Rev. 21:24) The Prophet Ezekiel was also a Priest of God. He was among his people that were taken into Babylonian exile. It was there that Ezekiel was called into his prophetic ministry. (Ezekiel 1:1-3, 2---3:15)

Ezekiel's visions and prophesies revealed the grandeur and absolute glory of God. Ezekiel's visions concerning the New Temple Area, included explicit and exact measurements of every aspect of the Temple. The Temple walls, the gateways, the foyers, the outer courtyard, the inner courtyard, the rooms for preparing the sacrificial offerings, the rooms for the priests, the Holy Place, and the Most Holy Place were all measured with precision. [Ezekiel 40-42]

Following the extensive measurements of the New Temple Area, Ezekiel was taken to the gate facing the east. Ezekiel watched as the glory of the LORD entered the Temple through the Eastern Gate. [Ezekiel 43:1-4] Ezekiel was informed that the outer gate facing east must never be opened again, because the LORD had entered the Temple through it. [Ezekiel 44:1-2]

Ezekiel then went on to describe in detail the regulations concerning the prince [the earthly king(s)], the Levites, and the priests; in regards to their entry priviledges to the Temple Area, and their requirements for sacrificial worship. The prince was given great honor, priviledges, and provision; but much was required and expected of him in regards to the sacrificial offering for the LORD. However, the prince was not allowed to perform the priestly role. (see Ezekiel 44---46)

These earthly prince(s) described in Ezekiel were allowed to approach God's Temple, and to bring their earthly splendor before His Presence. So, the kings of the earth who walk with the LORD God Almighty and the Lamb, will bring their splendor and majesty into the holy city. (Rev.21:24)

The outer gate facing the east side of the Temple, was required to remain shut forever, because The LORD God had entered through it. [Ezekiel 44:1-2] There will be no temple in the holy city, the New Jerusalem, because the LORD God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. [Rev. 21:22] The gates of the city will never be shut, for there will be no night there. [Revelation 21:25]

Jesus spoke of the man who walks by day, has light, and will not stumble (fall); he contrasted the one who walks by night. The light signifies purity, righteousness and the night signifies sin. (see John 11:9; 1 John 1:7). Jesus Christ has been made unto us wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption. (1Corinthians 1:30)

    REVELATION 22

    Revelation 22:1-2

    (1) Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb

    (2) down the middle of the street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. [NIV]

Revelation 21 provided the beginning glimpses of the city, the New Jerusalem. Revelation 22 reveals life in the city, and the relationship the redeemed will have with God.

The river spoken of in Revelation 22:1, appears to combine elements mentioned in Genesis 2:8-14 and Ezekiel 47:1-12. "The LORD God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden..........a river watering the garden flowed from Eden........" (Genesis 2:8-10 NIV) Eden is also known as paradise or a place of bliss, delight. The river that watered the Garden of Eden provided life; needed to make the garden grow abundantly with all kinds of trees. Some of the trees brought pleasure by their beauty, and some of the trees were good for food (fruit).

Ezekiel spoke of the water flowing from the New Temple toward the east and becoming a river. The water was life producing. (Ezekiel 47:1-12) Ezekiel's vision of the water flowing from the Temple, was a forshadowing of the river that proceeded (flowed) from the throne of God and of the Lamb. (Revelation 22:1)

The River of Revelation 22 is described as the river of the water of life. The source of the water of life is proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb. (Rev. 22:1) John the Baptist identified Jesus as...."the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world." (John 1:29) The Apostle John speaks of ".... a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing in the center of the throne...." (Rev. 5:6) This Lamb is Jesus Christ.

Jesus spoke to a Samaritan woman about the living water that he gives, that results in eternal life. (John 4:10, 13) Jesus identified himself to the Samaritan woman as "the Messiah". (John 4:25-26)

The river of the water of life flowed down the middle of the street of the city. (Rev. 22:2) The term middle means in the center, central, principal, essential, intervening. In the middle of the Garden of Eden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (Genesis 2:9) A Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing in the center of the throne (Rev. 5:6) The very fullness of the LORD God is centered in Jesus Christ, who is supreme above all. (see Colossians 1:15-20; Hebrews 1:1-14)

On each side of the river of the water of life stood the tree of life. (Rev.22:2) This is singular, as is the tree of life in the Garden of Eden. The tree of life may have qualitites similar to those described in the Banyan Tree of Hawaii, that has roots that cover large areas of land, with the ability to produce multiple trunks, from the one tree.

Ezekiel's vision of the water from the Temple watering a great number of trees on each side of the river, thus causing them to florish and live; foreshadows the life producing water that will flow from the throne of God and the Lamb. (Ezekiel 47:7, 12; Revelation 22:1-2) The splendor and glory of the tree of life in the New Jerusalem, will greatly exceed anything ever seen.

The tree of life in the city, the New Jerusalem will bear twelve crops of fruit every month, or twelve times per year. (Rev. 22:2) The numer twelve is a holy number signifying completeness. In the Garden of Eden, all kinds of fruit trees were made by God; some pleasing to the eye and some good for food. (Genesis 2:9, 16) Ezekiel saw a great number of trees, on both sides of the river, bearing all kinds of fruit every month. (Ezekiel 47:7, 12)

And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. (Rev. 22:2) Adam and Eve were allowed to eat from any tree in the Garden of Eden; this would have included the tree of life, before The Fall (sin) [Genesis 2:8-9, 16]. However, Adam was warned not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. [Genesis 2:9, 17] Adam and Eve were in a state of wholeness before The Fall, as they had access to the tree of life, with the leaves of health (wholeness). Their wholeness reflected their relationship with God.

Ezekiel stated that the fruit of the trees will serve as food and the leaves for healing (Ezekiel 47:12) The prophesy of Ezekiel again foreshadowing the tree of life of the city, the New Jerusalem. Jesus stated....."I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." [John 14:6 NIV]

    REVELATION 22
    (Continued)

    Revelation 22:3
No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. [NIV]

Curse is defined in various ways. The American Heritage Dictionary defines curse as an appeal to a super natural power for evil to befall someone or something. To invoke evil upon (damn); to bring evil upon (afflict). According to the Merriam Webster's Colegiate Dictionary, 10th ed., a curse is profanely insolent language against someone or something (profanity). They also define curse as a prayer or invocation for harm or injury to come upon someone. These definitions are secular, humanistic in nature and origin.

According to the Scriptures (the Bible), human sin (the fall of Adam and Eve) introduced a curse upon the ground (Gen. 3:17); and death into the experience of mankind and all living creatures. (Gen. 2:17) The fall of mankind by sin is described in Genesis chapter 3. Eve was deceived by the serpent to eat fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil; and Adam committed high treason against God, when he ate the fruit also. (Gen. 3:1-7)

The three basic aspects of all temptation, that can lead to sin are seen in Genesis 3:6. "Eve saw that the fruit of he tree was good for food" (the lust of the body) "and pleasing to the eye" (lust of the eye) , "and also desirable for gaining wisdom" (pride of life) ........... (Gen. 3:16; 1 John 2:16) Satan used these same temptation tactics against Jesus, prior to the beginning of his public ministry. Jesus had been in the wilderness for a total fast for 40 days. Satan brought the temptations to Jesus, but Jesus overcame him with the Word of God. (Lk 4:1-14)

James gives a graphic and clear description of the process involved in life's trials and temptations. This process reveals that choice is involved in one's response to temptation. James starts out by saying when tempted......this makes it clear that all of us face temptation. James instructs do not blame God...... James goes on to describe the process of temptation and the result of choosing to act on temptation.

Temptation (via evil desires) ----> Desire Conceived (births sin) -----> Sin, Full Grown (gives birth to death) [James 1:13-15 NIV] This process is seen at work with Adam and Eve.

Eve saw and was tempted in all 3 basic channels of temptation (via evil desires) ----> she took some of the fruit and ate it; she also gave some to Adam, and he ate also (sin was birthed) -----> The sin introduced cursing of the ground, separation of mankind from God, and death (sin, full grown gives birth to death). [Genesis 3:6-24 NIV]

Sin and death entered the world, as a result of the fall of man in the Garden of Eden. "Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man (Adam), and death through sin.....how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace....righteousness....life through the one man, Jesus Christ." [Romans 5:12-21 NIV] Jesus Christ has been made unto all those who receive him wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption. [1 Cor 1:30 KJV]

The Apostle Paul explained that sin was in the world before the law was given. However, death reigned in the world from Adam to Moses, and beyond, even to those who did not sin as Adam, by breaking a commandment. (Romans 5:12-14) The problem with the law was that no one could keep it in its entirety. Paul pointed out that anyone who relies on the law is under a curse. (Galatians 3:10) James clearly indicated why this is the case. "For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles on just one point, is guilty of breaking all of it." (James 2:10)

Paul went on to say that....."Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: 'cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.' " (Galatians 3:13) Jesus Christ has restored access to the tree of life, which will be in the city, the New Jerusalem. No longer will there be any curse. The LORD God Almighty and the Lamb will be in the city. [Revelation 22:3]

The tree of life symbolizes the people of God's total dependence on the creative power of God's Word for spiritual, intellectual, and physical development and life. Jesus is the True Vine and we are the branches (John 15:1-8); the Branch (Zechariah 3:8, 6:12); the Root of Jessie (Isaiah 11:10; Romans 15:12); the Root and the Offspring of David (Rev. 5:5, 22:16); the bread of life (John 6:35); and his words are spirit and life (John 6:63-64)

This link provides a conceptualization of the tree of life with Jesus Christ centralized. It was one of many conceptualizations seen online. http://www.planetpace.com/?tree-of-life,42

    REVELATION 22
    (Continued)

    Revelation 22:4
They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. [NIV]

The redeemed of the LORD, the people of God, have the promise that they will see his face. Throughout the Old Testament it was stated that no person could see God and live. In ancient times criminals and defectors were forbidden from seeing the face of the king.

The Apostle John stated......"now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is." [1 John 3:2 NIV] The Apostle Paul explained...."Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known." [1 Cor. 13:12 NIV]

Seeing God face to face points to a highly intimate relationship. Another aspect of this covenant relationship is seen in God's name being on their foreheads. [Rev. 22:4] A mark or seal in the forehead demonstrates who one belongs to; as seen in "the sealing of the 144,000 [Rev. 7:1-4]. During the Tribulation Period, at the sounding of the fifth angel's trumpet, the scorpion like locust were told to only attack those people, who did not have the seal of God in their forehead. [Rev.9:1-4]

The beast also will have a mark, and all will be required to receive that mark, in order to buy or sell. [Rev. 13:16-17] Angels will proclaim the gospel during the Great Tribulation; warning all not to accept the mark of the beast, either in their hands or foreheads. [Rev.14:9-12] Those end time saints, who refuse to worship the beast, or accept his mark, are promised to reign with Jesus Christ during the 1,000 year Millenium. [Rev. 20:4-6]

Further assurrance of the redeemed saints covenant relationship with God, will be that their names will be found written in the Lamb's Book of Life. [Rev. 20:14-15] "They will see him face to face, and his name will be on their foreheads." [Revelation 22:4] PTL!

    Revelation 22:5
There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever. [NIV]

It was mentioned in Revelation 21:25, post #111 above, that......"there will be no more night." Night, a condition of darkness or gloom, a state of grief, a state of moral or intellectual degeneration, death, is to be displaced, dispelled, destroyed by light (life). That......" there will be no more night." is repeated again, here in Revelation 22:5.

In the Holy City, there will be no need for a lamp or even the sun, as a source of light. The Apostle John writes that the Lord God will give them light. John had explained earlier that he saw no temple in the city, as the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. He had also explained that there was no need for the sun or the moon for light, as the very glory of God gave the city light and that the Lamb was its lamp. (see Revelation 21:22-23 and post #110)

The servants of the LORD are promised that they will reign with him forever. [Revelation 5:10, 20:6, 22:5; and Daniel 7:18,27]

    REVELATION 22
    (Continued)

Revelation 22:6-7 The angel said to me, "These words are trustworthy and true. The Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, sent his angel to show his servants the things that must soon take place."

    (7) "Behold, I am coming soon! Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophesy in this book." [NIV]

According to Webster's New Twentieth Century Dictionary, 2nd Edition trustworthy would be trust - to place confidence in; to rely on; to believe in the honesty, integrity, or justice of; to entrust; to commit to one's care; to be confident in; to feel sure of; to expect; to hope............ worthy - having value or merit; deserving praise; valuable; noble; virtuous; well-founded; justifiable; legitmate.

True - is defined as faithful; loyal; constant; reliable; certain; in accordance with fact; in agreement with reality; not false; conforming to an original pattern, rule, standard; exact; accurate; right; correct; lawful; legitimate; real; genuine; authentic.

Thus, the angel is telling John that the words of the book are worthy of trust, and can be relied upon without reserve. The angel also told John that he was sent by the Lord, to show his servants things that must soon take place. (see Revelation 22:6)

Now the time frame of "soon" needs to be kept in context, as time as seen by man differs from God's view of time. Peter explained that.......... "With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years is like a day." [2 Peter 3:8; Psalm 90:4 NIV ]

Following the angel's proclamation to John, the Lord Jesus Christ proclaimed, "Behold, I am coming soon" [Revelation 22:7, 12, 20 NIV] Statements made directly by Jesus are recorded in red, in the Red Letter Edition of the Bible. Jesus also stated that those who keep (obey, observe as true) the words of the prophesy of the book (Revelation), would be blessed (happy). (See Revelation 22:7; 1:3)

    Default Re: REVELATION (Part 2)

    REVELATION 22
    (Continued)

Revelation 22:8-9 I, John, am the one who saw and heard all these things. And when I saw and heard these things, I fell down to worship the angel who showed them to me.

    (9) But again he said, "No, don't worship me. I am a servant of God, just like you and your brothers the prophets, as well as all who obey what is written in this scroll. Worship God! [NLT]

John is confirming that he actually saw and heard all the details concerning the coming of the Holy City, the New Jerusalem. John saw and heard the awesome magnificance of the city, the throne of God, and the Lamb of God. He saw and heard about the splendor awaiting the servants of the Lord. (see Revelation 21, 22:1-7)

John was so awe struck and over taken by the things he heard and saw, that he actually fell down to worship the angel that showed him these things. (see Revelation 22:8) The Apostle John was a mature Christian, and considered a pillar in the Church. Yet, he was about to worship an angel, and had fallen down to do so. This was the second recorded instance of John being overwhelmed by the things he was seeing and hearing; and falling down to worship the angel. (see Revelation 19:10)

Angels are looked upon as beautiful, powerful, guardian protectors; sent as divine messengers, divine delivers, agents of covering. Some do worship angels. But here, the angel stops John again, saying......"No, don't worship me. I am a servant of God just like you..............Worship God!" (Revelation 22:9) John was stopped, rebuked, and corrected by the angel in both occurences of attempted angel worship.

The angel emphasized that God alone is to be worshipped.

And then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea. They also sang:

"Blessing and honor and glory and power belong to the one sitting on the throne and to the Lamb forever and ever." [Rev. 5:13 NLT]
