Red face Fine Jewellery VS Costume Jewellery

    Hi all,

I am not familiar with Jewellery. I have some jewellery want to sell in ebid but I confused when i try to classify them as fine jewellery or Costume Jewellery. I browse these catalog and confused.

When I have a ring, how could I classify them as Costume or fine?
    Sorry if it is obvious~~

    Thanks~

Not being an expert by any stretch of the imagination, I would think that fine jewelry would equal a REAL diamond, and costume jewelry would equal ZIRCONS...that's what it means to me anyways. A big welcome to eBid to you...best of luck in your venture!

    Hi and welcome to eBid.

As a jewelry seller, I list under costume jewelry all jewelry that isn't made with precious metals or stones, as Sarah Cov, Coro, other designer/non-designer jewels made from goldtone/silvertone metals, aluminum, silverplated, jewelry with rhinestones, glass, paste and plastic stones, etc.. I also list sterling silver under costume jewelry, (some might disagree with this, but it's a personal choice); IMHO fine jewelry is reserved for gold, platinum and gemstone jewelry.

    Just my 2 cents.

Best wishes for many sales to all,

Not being a jewellery seller - but I do buy jewellery on occasion - I'd say that 'fine jewellery' would be jewellery made from silver, or gold and if applicable, contain precious or semi precious stones. Possibly real pearls and gems would come into this grouping as well. Jewellery that I can wear every day, no matter what I put it through, will still look good, without loosing any of its colour. The way that I understand 'costume jewellery' - its jsut that - jewellery that is occasion wear, something that will have 'coloured glass', possibly be gold or silver plated - something that if worn while doing the washing up, gardening etc will loose its colour and / or lustre. I hope that helps.

    Thanks all of you!

    That's really confusing~~

I list my Sterling Silver under Fine jewellery. Some of my items have various stones like amethyst, jade, garnet. There's also some with Diamonesque (brand name for CZ). Gold-plated or anything else is listed under Costume.
