Default Need help- "Staffa" stamps? stamp collectors help please!

I have been sorting out some stamps to sell online from a load we found in the loft when we moved here, and I am mystified by some (I am not a stamp collector or fan). They have UK prices on, are quite large, no frills around the edge like most stamps, and have the word "staffa" on them. There are postmarks on them that say Staffa, Scotland.

Are they stamps, or what are they> what should I list them under? what sort of price should I list them for? Are they Royal Mail issues or from somewhere else?

    Thanks tons for any advice.

(hope its OK to post a picture, sorry its not great just grabbed a quick snap)

I don't know a lot about Staffa myself but here goes....

They are not issued by Royal Mail, they are produced locally on the island of Staffa in Scotland - so local post stamps issued mainly in the 1970s. I do not know if they are still produced.
They were sold to tourists and stamp collectors for income.
I don't know that many people collect Staffa stamps but someone will be collecting them.

As to price have sold a couple of unmounted mint sheetlets for £1.00 each.

I agree, they are local issues, similar to the ones of Lundy Island and the small island, off the Welsh coast, which I can't think of the
name of immediately. All are quite collectable and I have seen similar items sold. in our local stamp club auction. Do these come
under the heading "Cinderellas" ? I have listed a few stamps from Herm Island (Channel Islands) which are along the same lines.
Is the Welsh island "Bardsey Island" ?

The stamps might also appeal to thematic collectors - military, birds etc.

One person has it correct but what you have are stamp cards and generally from Staffa they will be not worth alot but you never know someone may want to buy them...

    Hello darklisruthven,

Staffa "stamps" are considered British Locals although the PTS persists in calling them Tourist Souvenir Labels.
Up until around 1986 they were used to pay for transport of mailings from the island to the mainland where British
postage was affixed to the postcard or letter and then sent on its way.

Agreed nobody lives on the island but if tourists or whatever wanted to send a letter or postcard from the island it
supported the cost of the delivery to the mainland. I created a facebook page showing some covers and postcards that
were legitimately used according to the rules for British locals. Used in the exact same way as Lundy Island locals.

The evidence is very scarce and hard to find but it does exist and conflicts entirely with the PTS findings back in the late
60's and which is being upheld to this day mainly because of big ego's. You see Clive Feigenbaum produced them and
it came to the point that he resigned from the PTS in disagreement with the decision although the PTS will state he was
kicked out. All boils down to the argument of "I quit" versus "your fired".

Any Staffa labels made after 1986 can be considered just that...labels because the mailbox on the island was removed
and you can no longer mail anything from the island. I believe production of them stopped in the late 90's although there are a few
made in the 2000's. Basically made for topical collectors.

If ANYONE has postcards or covers showing proper usage in their possession I am always interested in getting a scan
of them for the facebook page, or you can post them there yourself. The more we find makes that much more evidence that the PTS board was wrong at the time in their decision on their status. Interesting yes?
