    Default E-Machines Recovery disk.

I have acquired an E-Machines PC, and have had to replace the HDD. I have the coa sticker, but not the recovery disks. I have tried using my copy of XP with the machines own Licence Code but it will not accept it. I presume it must use a version of XP adapted to the E-Machine much like Dell does.

Can anyone help out with a work around or possibly a copy of the recovery disk.

I'm curious fossy, what is an E-Machine.
Is it a manufacturer like Dell or is it a unusual type of PC?

    Thanks for that info mcblob.
One further question, the "E" doesn't stand for European by any chance. If so I have one.

Hi Paul. E-machines is the name of the manufacturer. Like McBlob said they produce machines for the lower end of the market. I acquired this one from a customer when I replaced hers. The HDD was shot so I used a replacement. When I installed my copy of XP using the code on the machine it was not recognised and obviously I cannot use my code as it is still in use.

I've had similar problems with Dells and you have to use one of their disks, then it will recognise the serial number.

    Hi fossy,
Thanks for the added info, you and mcblob obviously know more than I do about this subject. I hate mysteries like this and thought that I could help, but obviously not.
    Good luck anyway,
    Paul.

Paul, does that mean you have an E Machine?

Unfortunately for you fossy no I don't think I have an E-Machine.
My PC has an "e" on the front, the logo for European Computers.
I will ask my son to ask some of his friends, they may have a solution - but don't hold your breath.
    Cheers, Paul.

    Fossy,
Just thought I would let you know that my sons friends can't help you.
    It was worth a try.
