Thread: robert scott artist

  1. #1

    Question robert scott artist

    anyone know anything about him?

I bought a painting a few years back and can't find anything else he's done

the painting is of a french scene.

I bought it at the Ideal Home Exhibition, it was in a stand full of other original works by other artists and just loved this one.

I just wondered, did he do any more?

Not heard of him, are you sure it wasn't a chinese factory produced item with just an english sounding signature. There are some good artists in China but there are a lot of this sort of stuff around. Just enjoy the painting for what it is, which is how you should view all art. no not by mass produced

as it was in an exhibit with other paintings, I think they were done by students or other unknowns

I've googled and hundreds came up but not the one I was looking for

    this is a stretched canvas

I bought unframed at the time

still worth a shot in asking
stil got the reciept somewhere too!

this is going back around 20 years now

I also am searching for information about a painter named Rober Scott. It is not the artic explorer. Robert Scott grew up in the same town as my mother and they were very close friends in high school. She was born 1907 and he was in her class at school. They both lived in St. Johns, Michigan. He became a professor of art in an eastern university but I cannot remember which it was. My mother was crushed when his parents would not allow their relationship to continue because she was not of the same social class. She is dead now but I have letters and drawings he did for her. Did you ever find out who the Robert Scott is that did your painting?

    Thanks,

    Martha Cole

    Hello,

I also have a painting, quite unique of the French Quarters with a white sky background signed by Robert Scott on stretched canvas with a long number in the back. It also is unframed. I had done some research about 10 years ago and found the he was not only an artist but a Professor at the distinguished Newcomb University in New Orleans. At the time I did the research he was still alive, apparently born 1920's. I also seem to remember he may have had a middle initial. Perhaps a "P."

I made contact with somebody from a local library there or that handled art exhibits and she sent me an article of an exhibit he had either in the 60's or 70's. The painting I posses is just so unique, I love it. Anyway, I lost touch with the person and cannot find the article she had sent me. I hope this helps.

I have not made any other attempts until now with better technology, to research him. I will take my own leads and continue on this quest.

The original thread is from 2008 and I haven't seen/can't find any posts by this member since then. I can only guess they are no longer active on eBid.
