    PRAYER REQUESTS/ UPDATES/ PRAISE REPORTS

    A PRAISE

Praise God for giving us his greatest gift, Jesus Christ!

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16 NIV)

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. (John 13:34-35 NIV)

My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. (John 15:12-14 NIV)

This is my command: Love each other. (John 15:17)

    2018 PRAYERS

Burgyeb - (1/12/2018) Praying for Southern California, who has experienced mudslides, following last month fires. Pray that they be strengthened and comforted by God's peace, as they face the loss of loved ones, property, and community infra-structure. (see post #1628)

Ropegg - (1/23/2018) Praying for the many needs for those who have been and are being caught in the disastrous things of 2017. Also for those who have been hit hard with the winter storms and the flu already this year. (see post #1630)

Burgyeb - (2/15/2018) Praying for the mass shooting victim's, those injured, their families and friends, and the Broward County High School. May God's peace be in their midst as the injured are healed from their injuries, and those who were lost are mourned by their loved ones. (see post #1636)

    2018 PRAISE REPORTS

Ropegg - (1/23/2018) is thankful to God who hears our prayers, and that He is faithful to answer them according to His will, and with His great love. Also that we are so blessed, even in the midst of the storms. Amen. Praise the Lord! (see post # 1630)

Burgyeb - (3/9/2018) Thanking God for some forward movement on some of the prayers on the prayer list. Received update from Samaritan's Purse on the clean up efforts and the rebuilding of homes to devastated areas of Texas from Hurricane Harvey. They are also rebuilding houses in several hard hit areas in the Caribbeans following the destruction caused by Hurricanes Irma and Maria.

    2018 UPDATES

Burgyeb- (3/9/2018) Positive action and good has been emerging from the mass shooting at the Broward County High School. Even on the day of the shooting, unusual heroic acts from teachers, a coach, and students, saved the lives of countless students and others. An overwhelming outcry from students and others, has resulted in dialogue among opposing factions of the gun control issue. Policy and legislative changes have been proposed and enacted, in the areas of school safety, mental health, age related changes for gun ownership, and specialized training for certain school staff.

The biblical definition of love was discussed. Is there a biblical definition of faith? Yes. Hebrews 11 describes and defines faith, as I Corinthians 13 describes and defines love.

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1 KJV)
    Now
faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. (Hebrews 11:1 NIV)

Without faith it is impossible to please God.... (Hebrews 11:6) However,
faith works by love. (Galatians 5:6) The greatest displays of faith in the absence of love is utterly useless. (see I Corinthians 13:1-3) Faith without love will not make it off of first base; it will go no where.

"Love always hopes" I Corinthians 13:7 [faithfulness]

    The greatest
hope known to mankind and the whole creation is the promised future glory. The mystery of this future glory is that it is to be revealed in the children of God. Even all of creation is eagerly awaiting this revelation. The creation (animate and inanimate) is actually groaning, along with the children of God "for their adoption as sons, the redemption of their bodies." (see Romans 8:18-23 NIV)

    "For in this
    hope we were saved.But hope
that is seen is no hope at all.
" (Romans 8:24-25 NIV) Salvation is by the grace of God (his unmerited favor, forgiveness and love), through faith--and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--not by works, so that no one can boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV)

    Praise the Lord!

The three remaining things..........faith, hope and love are connected. They are directly connected and connected to all aspects of God and his dealings with mankind.

Salvation, the beginning point of relationship with God, is grounded in God's love, is realized through faith, that is bound to one hope (the glorious future of Jesus Christ, that all believers share). [Ephesians 2:8-9, 4:4; Romans 8:18-23 NIV]

Each believer becomes a member of the Body of Christ (the Church), and is given responsibility to "keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace." (Ephesians 4:3) Unity in the Body of Christ (Ephesians 4:1-6) is maintained as believers learn or grow in their ability to: 1) Walk in the Fruit of the Spirit or to walk in
love (2 John 6); 2) Follow the way of love (1 Corinthians 14:1); 3) Live by the Spirit (Galatians 5:16-26); 4) Live by faith (Habakkuk 2:4; Romans 1:17; 1 Corinthians 5:7) The three remaining things.....faith, hope, and love are necessary to maintain unity in the Body of Christ.

God does not just automatically expect believers to walk or live at such a high level of spiritual maturity. In his great
love, he gave gifts to men (mankind). [Ephesians 4:7-8 NIV] God gave ministerial gifts to the Church. "It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelist, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the Body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ." (Ephesians 4:11-13 NIV)

"Then we will no longer be infants...... Instead, speaking the truth
in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body
    .....
builds itself up in love, as each part does its work." (Ephesians 4:14-16 NIV) "For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." (Ephesians 2:10)

Although we are not saved by works, God has planned, prepared, and ordained that believers are to do good works. The Apostle James shows that genuine
faith is validated by good deeds. (James 2:14-26 NIV) Genuine faith will produce good works (deeds) in the life of a believer, but salvation is through faith.

It is very fascinating to consider the many facets of God's love. The love of God is manifested through giving from all of His fullness. The mystery of God's fullness is that it is tri-part (trinity) yet one. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are one in essence and purpose. Mankind who are made in the image of God are tri-part beings; spirit, mind, body.

The fullness of God is in operation with God's giving to mankind. "There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men. (1 Corinthians 12:4-6 NIV) There is diversity among spiritual gifts, but unity in purpose. The purpose of all spiritual gifts is to build up the Body of Christ (the Church).

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16 NIV)
Jesus is speaking here about the love of his father (God the Father), and the greatest gift he could give to mankind, his Son (Jesus, the Christ).

Jesus Christ (God the Son) has given grace to all believers as he has apportioned it. "This is why it says: 'When he ascended on high, he led captives in his train and gave gifts to men.' " (Ephesians 4:7-8 NIV)
In his great love, he gave gifts to men (mankind). God the Son gave ministerial gifts to the Church. "It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelist, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service,." (Ephesians 4:11-13 NIV)

The manifestations of the Holy Spirit (God the Holy Spirit) are the work of the Spirit. These 9 power in operation gifts are given to believers by the Holy Spirit as he determines. The gifts given by the Holy Spirit are 1) the message of wisdom; 2) the message of knowledge; 3) faith; 4) gifts of healing; 5) miraculous powers; 6) prophesy; 7) distinguishing between spirits; 8) speaking in different kinds of tongues; 9) interpretation of tongues. (1 Corinthians 7-11 NIV)

The five fold ministry gifts or gifts of service (apostles, prophets, evangelist, pastors and teachers), are not the only service gifts given to benefit the Church. Other ministry positions mentioned in the Bible include bishop or overseer (1 Timothy 3:1-7, 8-13); elders(1 Timothy 5:17); deacons (Philippians 1:1); and those who wait on tables in the church (Acts 6:1-7).

Any natural talent, ability, or gifting of an individual that is used to help others, is a gift from God. Gifts of helping and gifts of administration are listed in 1 Corinthians 12:28-31. Believers do not all receive the same gift(s) as another believer. Some receive a few gifts and some receive many gifts. It is based on God's purpose for the individual believer.

Many individuals have been given gifts by God, but they may not know what their gifting or calling is. Sometimes it takes patience and prayers on the part of the believer, to gain insight from God about their role or place in the Church. There are various spiritual gifts assessment tools, that can be fun and interesting to take. I still like to lean towards prayer, confirmation from God's word, a word of knowledge, or an impression from God, when seeking answers or direction from God.

This is a website to a spiritual gifts assessment tool that you may find helpful:
    https://mintools.com/spiritual-gifts-test.htm

P.S. Took the test. It is based on the 7 gifts listed in Romans 12:6-8; and selecting the highest score of 1-2 of the gifts. Test was easy to take, interesting, fast, and most important accurate. My results (2 gifts) were the same as for other similar assessments I have taken.

Aside from just taking a test to see the main gift(s) one has been given by God, the test revealed other important things. Each multiple choice question dealt with a key characteristic of a positive walk with God. To answer in a certain way could cause a sense of embarrassment. To answer in a "spiritually correct way" could result in an inaccurate test result. So it is very important to answer the questions as honestly as possible.

Also, taking the test can reveal areas in the believer's walk with God that can be strengthened. Transparency with God and making our request known to him in prayer, will help a person grow in the things of God. Spiritual gifts should not cause someone to be boastful (Romans 12:3, 6); nor are we to deny the presence of gifts in false modesty, but use them to build up the Church (Romans 12: 4-8).

    T
his particular test is based on the 7 gifts listed in Romans 12:6-8. Some of these gifts are found on other lists of gifts, and some of these gifts are different. The seven gifts here are prophesy (1 Corinthians 12:7-10; Ephesians 4:11-13); serving; teaching (1 Corinthians 12:27-30; Ephesians 4:11-13); encouraging (exhortation); giving; leadership; and mercy. (see Romans 12:6-8)

Before spiritual gift testing tools were available, one relied on prayer, confirmation from God's word, a word of knowledge, or an impression from God, when seeking answers or direction from God. This continues to be a sound course action when seeking God's best for your life.

Default Re: What A Mighty God we Serve!

My heart is very heavy after reading the accounts of a troubled young man, who went on a rampage shooting at a high school in Broward County, Florida. What I found particularly disturbing was that many people knew he was troubled. He was orphaned with the recent loss of his mother; family were aware that he was troubled due to other losses including his father. The school system he attended, and the site of his shooting rage knew he was troubled. They had expelled him for erratic behavior, carrying ammunition to school, talking weirdly of guns and knives, and fighting with an ex-girl friend's boyfriend. Students in the school knew he was troubled, and spoke about him doing something crazy. Other students who were his friend, distanced themselves from him as his behavior became more odd.

His family members who took him in after his mother's death knew he was very troubled. They also knew he owned the gun, ammunition, and the key to the cabinet that housed his weapon. He is fully responsible for his actions, but this young man was also let down by his family, by his friends, by his school system, and possibly other systems (? U-Tube & FBI 5 months ago?). Sixteen people (students, teacher(s), and a football coach lost their lives, and many more were injured. Many students, faculty, staff, families and loved ones have been devastated by this event.

Mental illness not recognized/dealt with in a pro-active manner plays a large part in many of these mass tragedies. The young man (19) chose Valentine's Day to release his fury and carnage on innocent people. This school system had participated in a readiness training program designed to protect against mass shooting and other emergency events. A teacher who was leading her class out into the hallway for a fire alarm (alarm set off by shooter to draw students out of classes), heard an active shooter was on site. She calmly returned them to the class, closed the door, shut out lights, and went into a closet with 19 of her students. All escaped harm. The football coach who was one of the slain, was killed after jumping between bullets and students. He died so that some students could live. Mental illness, including the effects of bullying in schools and other social settings, needs to be considered when designing prevention strategies for these types of situations.

May the love and peace of God surround family and friends of those lost or injured, and all of the traumatized students, faculty, and other staff of the high school.

Thoughts and prayers are with Franklin Graham, and family on the death of Billy Graham on Wednesday, the 21st of February. Affectionately known as America's Pastor, he provided spiritual counsel to multiple American Presidents.

Billy Graham, world renowned evangelist, will lie in repose Feb. 28 through March 1, at the Capital in Washington, DC in the Rotunda. He will be greatly missed.

When I think about Billy Graham, I think about Jesus and the love of God. He was a simple man, with a simple message: "God loves you; come as you are."

He saw himself as a preacher. Many saw him as an evangelist. He preached the gospel or good news of God's love with fervent authority. He was also a gifted teacher of the word of God.

I have supported his ministry, Samaritan's Purse, for many years because of the way it is operated. The ministry focuses on the comprehensive provision of services to those in need, while focusing on the love of God, and His ability to change lives. The ministry operates in transparency, efficiency, and accountability. It is a massive ministry that is run with the best practices of a major corporation.

Billy Graham was gifted of God in the area of administration. A simple man, carrying a simple, yet powerful message, has impacted many lives with the love of God.

His passing was with peace, and he is resting peacefully in God's love.
