Reading Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand, enjoying it more than I thought I was going to, only a quarter of the way through tho - it seems to be taking me forever!

Snap... but I can go one further... one of my ancestors married a Spanish lass while serving over there, and every few generations we get a “throwback” and have a very dark olive skinned child born into the family.

It is also why I have a great intrest in the Peninsular War

Those books sound fascinating, I just adore European history, though I seem to be stuck in the medieval period these days.

On a side note, it must be really neat to know what your ancestors were up to back when. I have no idea about mine before 1900, as they weren't here, and I'm not terribly sure what they were up to in other countries, (Ireland and France mostly).

Best wishes for many sales to all,

    you might want to read
The Spanish Ulcer: A History of the Peninsular War by David Gates
    it is a good book

If I had the money I would love to own Oman's A History of the Peninsular War in hardback.... but 9 Volumes at around £150 a volume makes it a bit out of my league unless I win the lottery (that would be my fist purchase)

Snap also! Stephen Palmer brought home a Portuguese wife + we also get the olive skinned children - but not in my family line.

Thanks for the suggestion - will look for that one.

Ooops- have a confession to make - it's isn't Napier's that I have but vols 3 & 4 of Oman's Peninsular War. They are facsimile reprints, NOT originals
