Welcome to the eBid January Newsletter.

The new year is upon us and we'd like to welcome all our new buyers and sellers who have joined us this month. It's been a very busy month for us behind the scenes with a larger than normal number of queries received to our help desk in reference to our Bulk Upload system and also our API. We cannot complain though as it goes to show that these selling facilities are being used more and more every day and with that are constantly being tweaked and improved. Many thanks for all the input and help we receive.

Another 150 categories have been added during January, some of you will have noticed that the Kids' clothing categories have been changed around with size subcategories now being subcategories of the clothing type instead of having clothing types within each size sub cat. This will allow us to eventually remove the size subcategories and have size as an "Item Specific" field that will be set via filters. You many find that you are unable to repost a listing if we have recently added a new subcategory below the category that your item was originally listed in. If you see a message to this effect please select one of the new sub cats from the dropdown menu that best suits your item.

January 2017 has also seen yet another new record in the number of "push messages" that we send out to mobile devices (phones & tablets). Push messages are those little notifications that pop up on your phone/tablet relating to apps that you have installed. Once you install the eBid app (and you "allow" notifications when installing the app) we are able to send you notifications of all the important milestones that occur relating to your eBid account, e.g. making sales, being asked a question, being made an offer, receiving bids etc. If you haven't already done so, visit the app store and download the eBid app to keep yourself up to date with all your eBid trading activity.

I'm glad to report the problems we had with some users of @btinternet.com email addresses has been remedied. For once I am pleasantly surprised by the efforts from a large ISP into helping a company like ourselves. Many thanks to BT for getting to the bottom of the problem efficiently.

Due to a lot of recent requests we have now launched a French language version of eBid Canada, on each page of www.ebid.net/ca you will now be able to see a drop down menu that allows you to choose between English and French. Once you set this it will be remembered until you either clear your browser cookies or change it back again using the same menu. Exactly the same items will be for sale on the site, it is only the surrounding templates and translations that will be different.

Our more eagle-eyed forum users will notice that we are now using HTTPS secure pages throughout the forums. This is the first part of a move over to HTTPS for the whole site in line with Google's recent recommendations. We currently use HTTPS on pages that contain sensitive data such as passwords or transaction pages but this will become every page in the near future.

    Other updates this month :

BUGFIX - Feedback rows were not showing correctly when multiple sales to different buyers of the same item were due feedback.
BUGFIX- PayPal and PPPay checkout buttons were not showing on the checkout form on some ASL pages.
BUGFIX- On Multiple-Item Checkouts the DELETE link was not activating on some occasions.

    Selling Tips

BuyNow Price + Make an Offer
Although eBid started life as an online auction site, we have added many selling features over the years. One of the main changes was the introduction of the BuyNow price and subsequently our Make an Offer (MaO) system. With a BuyNow price your items are eligible for upload to Google Shopping giving you extra viewers and the MaO addition allows buyers who may well have been put off by a price to make an offer that could be acceptable for you.

    eBid Stores

If you have a SELLER+ account then don't forget you can make use of the eBid Store facility at no extra cost. Instead of paying the monthly subscriptions for e-commerce facilities that other companies charge, just set up your eBid Store in a few minutes. You'll need a title, a logo and some personalised categories. That's about it! Add your own colours and a background image as well and you have a full online store waiting for you to populate with your products, all within the cost of your SELLER+ subscription. Your eBid Store listings will also appear within the main eBid site search results. If you have not yet upgraded to SELLER+ then why not check it out, it's just £49.99 for life. You can open 5 eBid Stores, take advantage of ZERO Listing Fees, an option of 0% Final Value Fee with a maximum of 2%.
