The Absolute Best Time to Setup an Online Auction

It might be easy to assume you could just post any item on an auction site and people are going to bid. While that may be true to some degree, there are certain times that help to maximize not only your chances of selling items, but also the amount of money you get for them.

The Time When Profits Are Boosted

If you’ve spent any amount of time posting items for sale on an auction site or bid yourself, one things is clear: most people tend to wait until the auction period is about to end.
    Why?

It’s simple. They’re focused on minimizing the amount of people who bid on the item and its winning bid price. By waiting until the last hours or minutes of an auction, this can help the bidder.

    What about the seller?

Knowing when people tend to check out online auction sites most frequently is key. You want to set up your auction to end during those peak times.
    According to numerous sources, including
Time, eCommerceBytes, and Quora, that would generally be between 8:00pm EST, U.S. (or GMT -5) and 10:00pm PST, U.S. (or GMT -8). People are checking in for things they might be interested in purchasing or following once they return home from work and are relaxing at home.

The most popular day when people are shopping on auction sites is Sunday during those listed times.
How to setup your auction end time to maximize results.

You generally have a number of options when setting up an auction. Post your items on Sunday anytime in between this 5 hour window and select it to remain active for 7 days. That will ensure the auction ends during this peak activity timeframe.

If you’re not available to post auctions on Sundays, you can choose a different length of time for them to remain active, but calculate it so that they end during that window.

    Does this really matter?
In truth, there are plenty of people who may shrug this revelation off and believe they’re still going to get a great price for their items, but the research is clear on this; when you understand the psychology of a consumer, it becomes easier to increase the chances of not only making sales, but boosting its sale price.

The next time you’re setting up an auction, make sure it will end on Sunday between 8:00pm EST and 1:00am EST (or 10:00pm PST) in the U.S. No matter where you are in the world, you’ll begin to notice a distinct improvement in your auctions and sale prices.
