From the Editor
Dear WORKBASKET Reader:
In a few lucky parts of the country, spring’s already upon you. But for the rest of us, winter goes on. We’ve read our Christmas books, worn our new clothes - we’re ready for a change. Which is why we’ve made home decor our theme for March. Spring’s the natural season to re-decorate, and that doesn’t have to mean whole sets of furniture or new carpets throughout the house. It might mean knitting or appliquéing a set of place mats (pages 26, 16) that puts us in the mood to plan a spring luncheon. Or it might mean crocheting a pillow (page 38) or afghan (page 32) that adds a new pink or red to a neutrally colored sitting room. However small, these are changes that excite us. And while you’re lounging amidst improved surroundings, you can take time to plan this season’s garden - using the technique for bed gardening we’ve outlined on page 57.
But lest we forget, it’s still cold outside, and may be for many weeks. In fact, it’s now that many people seek the cold, on ski runs and mountain slopes. What better time to add a big, bold sweater to a tired winter wardrobe? Our exclusive design from Patons is an oversized stockinette that knits up in no time.
Now you have plenty to do until the snow melts, and the daffodils bloom...
