Any package over 12"X12"X12" is considered oversize in the U.S. Add to that the weight & distance as well as the "class" of mail. It can get confusing!!

I've found through shipping many years that's not exactly true. I know that's what the USPS site says, but sometimes I have a package for example 17"x10"x6". That's considered a package not a large package. If I'm unsure whether the box is a 'package' or a 'large package', I always check the USPS site before listing item to see what they think the package size is, i.e. package or large package. But you're right, it's very confusing!

I used endicia to make my label because I knew I couldn't change it on pooypay and USPS recommended them or stamps.com while USPS get their new site up and running. I entered the dimensions and weight and they charged me 12.78. So if it is oversized, they didn't charge me for it. Now I am not endorceing Endicia, because I am getting ready to close that account, as they pad the postage for themselves, on top of charging a monthly fee. USPS should be up and running anytime now, the only problem with USPS is they don't do labels for parcel post, they are pushing Priority mail hot and heavy. So I guess I'm going to have to use stamps.com.

They were up yesterday and you can use the postage calculator, I just don't know if they are running yet. Hopefully by the New Year, as their new postage rates are already being advertised.

I used the 12X12X12 to make a simple statement. Actually the 17X10X6 package also qualifies as a "regular package.

You are allowed 1728 cubic inches in size before the "oversized surcharge" goes into effect. (More if you have a postal person who is too lazy to measure.) There are also some size limits that can be shipped by priority mail (especially to foreign countries),
I spent over 18 months working for a contract PO before retiring a year ago.

BTW Expect US postal rates to go up on several services in mid-January.

I know, it's very confusing. Thanks for the explanation.
