Thread: Another bug.. Calculated shipping

  1. #1

Thumbs down Another bug.. Calculated shipping

Went in to edit one of my auctions, and then decided to offer Parcel Post for Domestic Shipping option, as a calculated shipping, because it would be a savings over Priority Mail (and I can use Delivery Confirmation)..

That worked fine, I went back to the auction and realized with some shock that shipping was incredibly cheap!! ($1.90) which isnt possible for parcel post. I scrolled down to look and make sure I had selected Parcel Post.. This is what it said..

    Domestic Shipping
    From 33155 to 33155 USPS Priority Mail to 33155 = $5.75
    incl. $0.95 handling fee
    USPS Parcel Post to 33155 = $0.95
    incl. $0.95 handling fee
No way is that right.. Looks like the calculated shipping took my handling fee as the shipping rate and then added my handling fee on to it..

So, I removed the parcel post option, leaving it at Priority Mail only..

I tried this on two other auctions to see what would happen, I got the SAME results, somehow.

I have not yet tested to see what happens if I remove priorioty mail and replace it with parcel post only.. it just occurred to me to try that. will update when I know more..

    UPDATE:
OK I changed it from priority mail only to parcel post only.. The amount remained at $5.75 which is incorrect (this should have been $5.50 including handling fee) - Almost as if the first amount is calculated and then stored or cached, and not calculated in realtime, which is not good..
Just to test, I then went and added Priority Mail as a second option.. Oh boy..
    Domestic Shipping
    From 33155 to 33155 USPS Parcel Post to 33155 = $5.75
    incl. $0.95 handling fee
    USPS Priority Mail to 33155 = $0.95
    incl. $0.95 handling fee
Obviously, something is not working correctly there..

Although with most of my auctions I can probably calculate beforehand the exact shipping, (just box it up and weigh it) and figure what is the most postage I would pay and bill for that amount.. at considerable expense to efficiency, but if that is what I'll have to do until issue is corrected, well..

LOL! Wouldn't be that far-fetched if they wanted to host some clusters at Terremark NAP of the Americas in Miami that's where our datacenter is hosted. I'm sure my boss wouldn't be adverse to leasing out a cabinet or two
