Thread: Lots of rubbish on eBid!

Fine, you carry on thinking that, I'll carry on buying up stock at silly prices because two of the auto-repricers have had a bit of a price war, and making a nice profit on it .

Yes I try and do that as well. I also put in preorders for items at a much lower value than I can sell them at. It all works.

But I stick to my guns. If a book has a decent amount of people who want to buy it and few who want to sell it then it will naturally spend most of its time at a highish price. If the opposite is true then it will be up for a low price. The nature of online selling will mean that prices will fluctuate for high demand or low supply items.

    Default High prices

    Hi all,
I think common sense should prevail here.
If you see something for sale that you like, do a search to see if you can find it cheaper and are confident that the seller is reliable.
Lack of feedback would not suggest that the seller is a chancer, it simply may be that he/she has not generated the sales as yet. This would be true of ourselves here at Karibu Online Sales.
We are currently beavering away adding listings to our 2 initial shops here on Ebid with only around 30 products of about 2000 listed at present and expect business to be slow at the start as it was on the other auction site where we are silver powersellers.
We are a business and this is not a hobby so devote our time to our selling outlets which include Amazon and our own internet sites.
With regards to prices charged, this usually depends on the type of goods and the buy in costs + internet advertising. then the charges added by auction sites and Payment handling companies such as Paypal.
As a general guide our price structure is as follows: -
    Electronics 80% of RRP
    Womens clothing 20% of RRP
Lingerie and adult toys 60% of RRP
These price structures are based on how much we can buy in at the time and discount offered by our suppliers, so we are quite a bit less than other sellers on the net.
In real terms an LCD TV we sell on Eb*y would be £329, Amazon would be £352 but on Ebid we can sell for £315 due to fees charge by the sites.
We post daily and all UK post is recorded delivery which arrives next day in most cases.
So what does Ebid mean to us and our customers? well certainly around £1000 less in fees each month which means we can afford to lower our prices, but the sales would have to be generated before this could happen and as we have no feedback on here as yet, this could take a while. In the meantime we will be slipping flyers into our packages to advertise Ebid.

Its no good changing the structure of listings from 'run till sold' over to the relist every xdays for all listings. I have some items unique to this site and indeed some are unique to the web. They can sit there on 'run till sold' because when you google for them (not just search on ebid), they are the only listed examples.
    Exactly so

If you are selling something that thousands of others are selling, then you need to make sure that your prices are competitive and it's probably best to have an expiring auction type listing.

Most of my stuff is specialist; it is therefore difficult to get a "market" price for it. The best you can do is use trial and error to see what you price you can obtain - This takes ages becuase sales tend to be sparse at the best of times and non existent if you price too high!

I'm new here and one of the reasons I decided to set up camp was the non-expiring auction format and zero listing fees (for the reasons given above).

On like for like listings, I am cheaper here than I am on eBay, when I sell something over there I email my customer and tell them I am also listing here at a lower price. I haven't had a lot of luck enticing anyone over here yet, but relatively early days, and (as has been mentioned) an increasingly dire market everywhere for discretionary purchases. In fact, I have been in this "game" since 2002 (on eBay) and it has never been tougher. I have currently also let my eBay listings run down as I can't see a lot of point in chucking money away in a lot of listing fees.

I think the best thing people can do is get their "ducks in a line"
ready for the upswing in conditions - I'm glad I'm not dependent for my living on Internet trading !

Incidentally, I agree some folks equate auction sites with items sold at “fire sale” prices –Fair enough, can’t blame people for trying to carve a good deal. On the other side though, as a seller, I don’t do this for the love of it. If I can’t turn a reasonable profit then there are about a zillion other things I’d rather be doing with my time.

I personally would sell my stuff at the same price as I do on eBay and saving me listing fees at the same time. And the multiple fixed price on eBid is magic.
