Hi Cocksparrer, agoraphobia is from the greek agora- the market place. phobia- fear of ie. agoraphobia - fear of the market place, which ,in modern terms equates to fear of going out of the house. Does your friend want help? Will she pick up the phone? The community psychiatric nurse may come and visit and can point her in the right direction to get help.Otherwise if she has a computer she can try google, there are loads of sites that may be of help. Her first line of attack is to ring her local surgery and see what they have to offer. hope this helps. cheers.

Oh she isnt my friend, apparently she is in her 70's so im lead to believe, she was an outgoing person, had a nsaty divorce family breakup & them completely lost all hope. All I know is she buys her stuff off the internet, pays bills via net, cant go out, and its a strugle for her just to open the front door, as far as I know she has spoken to docs & peeps about it. But no one wants to go visit her IE specialists or whatever you call them, she hasnt left her house in about 6 years. Her hubby passed away about 5 years ago. Thats all I know.

    Thanks celtic

All help is being given to my friend who is keeping a log & seeing best plan of action for her agrophobic friend. The link on this thread I was given I visited the site & copied certain pages just so she can read up on what she could possibly do to encourage her friend.
