    Lightbulb Renaming Stores

I would like to rename one or more of my Stores as what I sell has evolved over the years and store titles may not now best reflect their contents. The only way I know to rename a Store is to create a new one then copy across the contents from the old Store. This is quite a simply process but if I do this I am concerned that return customers may not find my Store. It would be good to be able to change a Store name and retain both the old and new URLs.

I've never done it, but you should be able to just edit the current store name in Section 2 of the configuration page. Any links you have (e.g. in forum sig) to that store will also need updating.

Thanks for the suggestion. I assume if I do that it will give me a new URL for the store. What concerns me is that I will have regular customers who will have saved a link to my store(s) in their favourites - if the renamed store gets a new URL it will mean these links will no longer work. What I would like is both (the original and the renamed) URLs to work so I don't lose customers.

What, in your position, I would try is:

    • Rename your current store to transfer everything to the newly named store.
    • Create a new store using the old store name, but leave it offline so that it doesn't count as one of your 5 free stores.

Then if anybody uses the old store URL they should be taken somewhere in your account that at worst just shows your current listings, at best links to your active stores.

The system as it stands uses the store title to construct the store URL. I think that is a good idea and wouldn't wish it to be changed. It is likely a benefit to SEO also.
